The main thing has already been said about this climb.

If you start from Bingen centre (plausible I think), it's actually also climbing up to the starting point.

The first part is definitely the toughest but also the most beautiful. A narrow road, which is more like a wide forest path where you are all alone. You feel really close in the forest, overlooking the Rhine.

I found the asphalt in the short descent to be really bad anyway. It was definitely good watching out and some puzzling to find a route among the holes, pits and sometimes loose stones.

The second part you also cycle through a forest, but there the sides are not as steep, giving you a more wide-open effect. This makes you feel less like you are cycling on a mountain. But above all, you have few reference points so the gradient is hard to estimate. A long road in front of you that seems to ascend slowly turns out to be more difficult after all. Only your bike computer at that point explains why you have to pedal so hard.

I had Bingen as my starting point (was there by car). Apparently you have to put a parking disc or pay to park your car everywhere. But in the Rosengartenweg there is a large car park where you can safely leave your car for a whole day. Da's a short tough climb from the village, though. So if you want to return to your car after a hike there, definitely have a bit of energy left I would say :o)

THE climb (!) par excellence between Bingen - Mainz - Worms - Bad Kreuznach. You have to climb almost 500 metres in altitude in just under 10 km. You won't find this anywhere else in the region.
The lower part of the climb is very challenging (1km at 10%). After that, the forest becomes a little more relaxed with great views. At Heiligkreuz (restaurant) there is a left-hand bend, which is the steepest section (12-14%). The lowest gear must be used here for 400-500 metres. Once you reach the larch meadow, the route even goes downhill for around 1 - 1.5 kilometres before the "cream of the crop" begins on the last 6 kilometres. From here on, there is no time to catch your breath and you always have to pedal at an incline of 6 - 9 kilometres. There is a nice restaurant at the summit.
Oh yes, there are hardly any cars (even closed to cars on Sundays) and the surface on the descent and the last few kilometres is rather poor, but still easy to ride.

Very nice climb, perfectly asphalted in the lower part and no traffic. Great views through the large deciduous trees of the Rhine valley, the Bingen mouse tower and the Ehrenfels castle ruins. If you want, you can take a break halfway along the route at the Heiligkreuz forester's lodge. Further up, the road surface deteriorates somewhat, but is always easy to ride.
