Despite the fact that the road was barely visible because of the leaves, it was certainly a nice climb, with the two real hairpins and arrival at the dam itself. Just around the barriers beforehand and through a gate after the first hairpin (doable provided you don't have absurdly wide mtb handlebars). At the end you see the road suddenly get steeper where you really have to pull it. At the dam, a beautiful route follows to the left along the reservoir and then towards Baraque Michel.
Ondanks het feit dat de weg amper zichtbaar was vanwege de bladeren toch zeker een mooie klim, met de twee echte haarspeldbochten en aankomst op de dam zelf. Van te voren even om de slagbomen heen en na de eerste hairpin door een hek (goed te doen mits je geen absurd breed mtb-stuur hebt). Op het eind zie je de weg ineens steiler oplopen waarbij je er nog echt aan mag trekken. Bij de stuwdam volgt links een fraaie route langs het stuwmeer en daarna richting Baraque Michel.
By handbike, this one is also very doable. Indeed it takes some searching and there is an offset but you can just pass it with the bike. The tarmac is a bit rough but certainly not bad, so you have plenty of grip and that makes this climb doable. Once you get through the second bend, it's a bit of a struggle and then you're there and you can enjoy the beautiful view (and nice big lion statue).
Met de handbike is deze ook erg goed te doen. Inderdaad het is even zoeken en er is een versprekking maar daar kun je met de fiets gewoon langs. Het asfalt is wat ruw maar zeker niet slecht, je hebt dus grip genoeg en dat maakt deze beklimming toch wel goed te doen. Als je de tweede bocht door bent dan is het nog even stampen en dan ben je er en kun je van het mooie uitzicht genieten ( en mooie grote leeuwenbeeld.)

If you combine this vicious climb with the long climb to Barraque Michel that starts on the other side of the reservoir, then do not miss it if you are in the area. The combination leads you over beautiful roads to the top.
Be careful to find the start of this climb. Do not be deterred by roadblocks. Those are for cars.
Als je dit venijnige klimmetje combineert met de lange klim naar Barraque Michel die aan de andere kant van het stuwmeer begint, dan zeker niet overslaan als je in de buurt bent. De combinatie leidt je over prachtige weggetjes naar de top.
Even opletten om het begin van deze klim te vinden. Niet laten afschrikken door versperringen. Die zijn voor auto's.
On the road to Lac de Gileppe you suddenly have to cross the road for this hidden alternative climb to le Lion. Ignoring the traffic signs at the start, you can just do this short climb to the lake. It briefly ticks the 12 to 13％ towards the end but it's easy to do and nice and quiet! You may encounter a closed gate at the halfway point: use the hikers' passage to continue the climb.
Op de doorgaande weg naar Lac de Gileppe moet je plots oversteken voor deze verscholen alternatieve klim naar le Lion. Verboden voor alle verkeer-bord aan het begin negeren, je kan deze korte klim naar het stuwmeer gewoon doen. Het tikt even de 12 a 13％ aan richting het einde maar prima te doen verder en lekker rustig! Mogelijk kom je op de helft een gesloten hek tegen: gebruik de wandelaars-doorgang om de klim te vervolgen.
Car-free climb to the reservoir Lac de la Gileppe with two beautiful (hairpin) bends. You climb nice and sheltered so no burden of sun or wind. At the top you will be rewarded with a magnificent view, so definitely worthwhile and I think a nicer climb to the lake than the busy N269.
Autovrije klim naar het stuwmeer Lac de la Gileppe met twee mooie (haarspeld)bochten. Je klimt lekker beschut dus geen last van de zon of wind. Bovenaan word je beloond met een schitterend uitzicht, dus zeker de moeite waard en ik denk een leukere klim naar het stuwmeer dan over de drukke N269.
