It's pretty, it's hard, it's quiet. A perfect climb on a weekday morning in September. I hauled my 100kg up quietly with a suitable gear. It's beautiful, mostly shady. Go for it

A fine climb, the first half of which offers fine views to the right over the Aure valley and its small villages. The rest of the climb takes place under the cover of a beautiful, quiet forest. All this on a good road that is sometimes a little narrow, but relatively uncrowded and with regular gradients.
You almost leave the forest to reach the top of the pass and discover its magnificent panorama over Hourquette (cows, horses, sheep), Arbizon, the Pic du Midi de Bigorre and the crests of Aspin.
Well worth the diversions and a great alternative to the often over-travelled Aspin.
Belle ascension avec, dans sa première moitié, de très belles vues à droite, sur la vallée de l'Aure et ses petits villages. La suite s'opère sous le couvert d'une belle forêt calme. Le tout sur une bonne route parfois un peu étroite mais relativement peu fréquentée et des pourcentages réguliers.
On sort presque de la forêt pour arriver en haut du col et découvrir son magnifique panorama sur l'Hourquette (vaches, chevaux, moutons), l'Arbizon, le Pic du Midi de Bigorre et les crêtes de l'Aspin.
Vaut le détour et constitue une belle alternative à l'Aspin, souvent trop couru.

Having done the other end of this climb and the "Grange de Lurgues" in between, I was in trouble exiting Ancizan already. It is - in/by itself - indeed a nice climb with great views and the bulk - 8 km or so - is at 7/8％ with some higher grade sections. It's worth noting that the descend has a one kilometer stretch going UP at 7 percent, which can be a leg breaker, starting at 6, then 7, 8, 9 and finishing off with 10％. I may have been unlucky as the Tour de France Femmes was tackling the Col d'Aspin, so maybe there was more traffic than usual, but it was extremely busy, with both up- and down going cars/vans/campers.
Beautiful gentle climb with nice views of the mythical Pyrenees mountains. The climb does not get really difficult anywhere, but good pacing is important for its length.

What a beautiful climb. I started from Arreau and went via Ancizan to the beginning of the climb. There you start along the church with a piece of 15％. The climb starts steep and stays steep till the end. The road is good but a bit bumpy. The views are great. I was there on a rainy day and looked out on the clouds and fog banks in the valley. There are some cows on the road and with rain your bike needs a wash afterwards.
Wat een mooie klimmetje. Ik begon vanuit Arreau en ging via Ancizan naar het begin naar de klim. Daar begin je langs de kerk met een stukje van 15％. De klim begint stijl en blijft tot het eind pittig. De weg is goed maar wat hobbelig. De uitzichten zijn geweldig. Ik was er op een regenachtige dag en keek uit op de wolken en mist banken in het dal. Er lopen hier en daar koeien op de weg en met regen is je fietst naderhand aan een wasbeurt toe.

The summit and actually the entire climb is an oasis of calm thanks to the lack of traffic.
It's best to stock up before the start of the climb in the villages on the main D929 road Arreau-St.Lary Soulan. Bike information signs will keep you informed every kilometer.
Traffic low top climb!!! Hopefully the Tour passages don't attract too many cars and moto's.

Komende van St.Lary draaide ik op aangeven van de wegwijzer in Guchen links de grote weg af om direct het steilste stuk van de gehele klim (via de route de l'Arbison =gele weg CF kaart) door het dorpje te beginnen om na ongeveer 1 km. een nagenoeg identieke aanloop die start in Ancizan (CF route) te vervoegen.
De eerste kilometers flirten met de 10％ licht draaiend beschut door dennenbossen de berghelling op. In het minder steil vervolg fietst je voorbij oranjekleurige rotswanden en heb je fantastisch uitzicht op de Aure vallei die steeds dieper wegzinkt. Top en eigenlijk de volledige klim is een oase van rust dankzij amper verkeer wegens onbewoond.
Bevoorraden doe je dan ook best voor de start van de klim in de dorpjes op de grote D929 weg Arreau-St.Lary Soulan. Fietsinfo bordjes houden je op de hoogte elke kilometer.
Verkeersarme top klim!!! Hopelijk lokken de Tour passages niet te veel auto's en moto's.
Prachtig alternatief voor de drukke Col d'Aspin.
A climb where the devil is clearly in the beginning. After the steep introduction, the percentages are good to cycle up in a nice rhythm. At the top a great scenery unfolds and you look out over a wide valley. The descent towards Payolle is beautiful.
Een klim waar het venijn duidelijk in het begin zit. Na de steile inleiding lenen de percentages zich goed om in een lekker ritme naar boven te fietsen. Boven ontvouwt zich een geweldig decor en kijk je uit over een weidse vallei. De afdaling richting Payolle is prachtig.
Recommended. Nice and quiet, fantastic scenery and some shade here and there. After the top nice downhill through a beautiful valley and via the Aspin back.
Aanrader. Lekker rustig, fantastisch landschap en wat schaduw her en der. Na de top lekker afdalen door een mooie valei en via de Aspin weer terug.
Climbed this mountain as second in the Marmotte Pyrenees. The landscape here is really fantastic. Beautiful green mountains, summits look stunning. The climb is not so heavy. The road surface is good. The same applies to the descent towards the Aspin. Be careful in the descent because there are quite a lot of forests / bushes and therefore you have less overview. The area to cycle through is beautiful.
Deze berg als tweede beklommen in de Marmotte Pyreneeën. Het landschap is hier echt fantastisch. Mooie groene bergen, toppen zien er schitterend uit. De beklimming is niet zo zwaar. Het wegdek is goed. Dat geldt ook voor de afdaling richting de Aspin. Wees wel voorzichtig in de afdaling want er zijn best veel bossen/struiken en daardoor heb je wat minder overzicht. Het gebied om door te fietsen is prachtig.
Really recommended, especially if you do for example Aspin-Tourmalet-Hourquette, and thus ends on the side of Arreau. Just a very nice col in the landscape without tourist resorts and an old-fashioned top like a triangle. View: phenomenal.
Echt een aanrader hoor, zeker als je bijvoorbeeld Aspin-Tourmalet-Hourquette doet, en dus eindigt aan de kant van Arreau. Gewoon een hele mooie col in het landschap zonder toeristenoorden en een ouderwetse top als een driehoek. Uitzicht: fenomenaal.
