Did the climb as the last of the three (Nufenen and Gotthard) in a stunning round trip. By now it was midday, hot and very busy. Far too busy. The many motorbikes and cars combined with a narrow road surface made it a restless climb where I could enjoy little. So do this climb early in the morning.
De beklimming als laatste van de drie (Nufenen en Gotthard) gedaan in een schitterend rondje. Het was inmiddels middag, warm en erg druk. Veel te druk. De vele motoren en auto’s in combinatie met een smal wegdek maakte het een onrustige klim waarbij ik weinig kon genieten. Doe deze beklimming dus vroeg in de ochtend.
My first mountain pass! I found it very hard, and apparently it's a relatively easy climb, so I'm afraid of the other climbs now haha.
I started in Göschenen. The climb to Andermatt felt shorter than it was thanks to the incredible views of the Reuss and the many bridges.
From Andermatt to Realp was a breeze. The road was excellent and pretty straight, it felt like a race track.
From Realp onwards it got hard. After the first couple of hairpins I was already struggling. Kept climbing, the Goldfinger spot was a nice break. Nice view after the switchbacks, esp. of train tracks in the valley to the left. But the climb kept going.
After Furkablick I celebrated. But the best view was after the pass. Looking down at the descent and the Grimsel pass in the distance along with a lake (totensee?) was just incredible.
Overall, pumped and delighted to have successfully done the climb.
Harder at the beginning, it gets softer near the end, when it reaches the highest altitude. The landscape is quite rugged and the road is a bit narrow in some areas. It is worth the climb but the best views are on the other side.
Más duro al principio, suaviza cerca del final, cuando a más altitud se lleva. El paisaje es bastante agreste y la carretera un poco estrecha en algunas zonas. Merece la pena subirlo pero las mejores vistas están del otro lado.

Beautiful climb, with fortunately not as much traffic as, say, on the Stelvio. Although you're still never alone.
I didn't get much of the view, as I rode up the entire climb in fog. It starts harder than it ends in terms of gradient. At the top the view is sublime, and the descent to Valais is very beautiful. You can see the Grimsel pass.
Mooie klim, met gelukkig niet zo veel verkeer als bijvoorbeeld op de Stelvio. Al ben je nog steeds nooit alleen.
Van het uitzicht kreeg ik weinig mee, want de gehele klim reed ik op in de mist. Het begint moeilijker dan het eindigt qua hellingshoek. Bovenop is het uitzicht subliem, de afdaling naar Wallis is erg mooi. Je ziet de Grimselpas liggen.
Climbing from Realp (first climb of the Furka/Nufenen/Gotthard loop), I loved every kilometer! Not that steep, and the panorama keeps on giving. A perfect way to start the loop.
Not much motorized traffic but it was early enough (9h00 on a Friday morning — on Saturday it would have been unbearable).
Wonderful climb! Was able to do the climb in very nice weather. The day before, it was barely 2 degrees at the summit and there was even melting snow! Obviously a very well-known pass for motards and owners of fast cars. But there is room for everyone. Cyclists are taken into account. That was my feeling anyway. Along the way, the scenery and snow-capped peaks are really enjoyed. The descent to Gletsch is also breathtaking. Of course, on the way, it's stopping at the famous Belvedere Hotel/restaurant and taking some photos. If you are lucky, you can also spot the steam train during the descent to Gletsch. The ascent is definitely recommended!
Prachtige beklimming! De beklimming kunnen doen in zeer mooi weer. Daags voordien was het op de top amper 2 graden en viel er zelfs smeltende sneeuw! Uiteraard een zeer gekende pas voor motards en eigenaars van snelle wagens. Maar er is ruimte voor iedereen. Met de fietsers wordt er rekening gehouden. Dat was toch mijn gevoel. Onderweg is het echt genieten van het landschap en de besneeuwde bergtoppen. Ook de afdaling naar Gletsch is adembenemend. Uiteraard is het onderweg even halthouden aan het befaamde Belvedere Hotel/restaurant en enkele foto’s nemen. Als je geluk hebt, kan je ook het stoomtreintje spotten tijdens de afdaling naar Gletsch. De beklimming is zeker een aanrader!
Beautiful climb, done as before in the FURKA - NUFENEN - TREMOLA tour. Very nice, easy to climb and with beautiful scenery. After 3-4 hairpin bends there is a small sign that recalls a scene from Goldfinger being filmed.
I arrive a little strange, as the pass is 1km after the restaurant.
If you feel like going down 2 hairpin bends, there is the BELVEDERE hotel, which is beautiful.
As an ascent, it is super easy and fun.
Bellissima salita, fatta come prima nel giro FURKA - NUFENEN - TREMOLA. Molto bello, facile da salire e con splendidi paesaggi. Dopo 3-4 tornanti c'è una piccola scritta che ricorda essere stata girata una scena di Goldfinger.
Arrivo un po' strano, in quanto il passo è 1km dopo al ristorante.
Se avete voglia di scendere 2 tornanti, c'è l'albergo BELVEDERE che è bellissimo.
Come salita è super facile e divertente.
For me, the most beautiful climb of the Gotthard-Challenge. It is not easy, but you can get into a good rhythm there. The views are absolutely unparalleled. The nice thing about cycling is that you can see the picturesque little train in the valley :)
I would love to come back one day to conquer the Furka from the other side.
Wat mij betreft de mooiste klim van de Gotthard-Challenge. Hij is niet makkelijk, maar je kunt er wel in een goed ritme komen. De uitzichten zijn absoluut weergaloos. Het leuke van fietsen is dat je het pittoreske treintje in het dal kan zien :)
Ik kom heel graag een keer terug om de Furka van de andere kant te bedwingen.
I did this end in 2015 as a Swiss stage - Gotthard/Furka/Grimsel - to end my Giro. I will never forget the views, although those on the Furka itself - except maybe near "Bond Street" - pale in comparison to those you get between the Furka and the Grimsel, or the "Lord of the Rings" view on the Grimselsee/-Hostpitz. The view from the terrace at the Furkablick restaurant is breathtaking, though...
A beautiful but also very tough climb.
For me it was really hard, I already had the Sustenpass in my legs and then the climb to Andermat. I don't think I had recovered well enough yet, I often thought about getting off in the first few kilometres. But I knew it would get easier and it really did.
Because of the suffering I did not pay as much attention to the surroundings as I would have liked, but it was nevertheless beautiful. Green mountain sides and at some point being able to see very well where you are going.
Aesthetically the most beautiful climb in the area for me.

Voor mij was het echt afzien, ik had de Sustenpas al in de benen en daarna de beklimming naar Andermat. Ik denk dat ik nog niet goed genoeg hersteld was, heb vaak gedacht aan afstappen in de eerste kilometers. Maar ik wist dat het makkelijker zou worden en dat is ook echt zo.
Door het afzien wat minder goed op de omgeving gelet dan ik had gewild, maar het was desondanks prachtig. Groene bergflanken en op een gegeven moment heel goed kunnen zien waar je naar op weg bent.
Voor mij esthetisch gezien de mooiste klim in de omgeving.
A climb in the category of "bicycle paradise" in a beautiful setting. The first 6 kilometres are tough, but because of the regular course you can 'take your rhythm. The middle section along the mountainside is not difficult and offers the opportunity for some recovery. In the last kilometres you have to work hard.
Een klim in de categorie "fietswalhalla" in een geweldig mooi decor. De eerste 6 kilometer zijn pittig, maar door het regelmatig verloop kan je 'lekker' je ritme pakken. Het middenstuk langs de bergwand is niet moeilijk en biedt de mogelijkheid tot enig herstel. In de laatste kilometers mag je nog even aan de bak.
Steady start, especially as the front door of our flat in Realp was on the first ascending metres. Nice climb, but I wouldn't dare say which side is the nicest. In any case, it was much busier than the day before with all kinds of traffic.
Stevig begin, zeker gezien de voordeur van ons appartement in Realp aan de eerste stijgende meters lag. Mooie klim, maar ik zou niet durven zeggen welke kant het mooiste is. Het was in ieder geval veel drukker dan de dag ervoor met verkeer van allerlei pluimage.
2 sides with 2 totally different styles and steepnesses. From real it starts very steep with a lot of turning and the last half is a long swing along the wall with the pass always in sight. From the other side it is actually exactly the other way around, longer run with swinging to the top.
2 kanten met 2 totaal verschillende stijlen en steiltes. Vanuit real begint ie heel steil met veel gedraai en gekeer en is de laatste helft een lange slinger langs de wand met de pass steeds in het zicht. Van de andere kant is het eigenlijk precies andersom, langere aanloop met geslinger naar top.
Nice climb, but very busy. Lots of switchbacks, beautiful views of the valley.

In August 2021, this was the 1st climb of our own Gotthard Challenge. It is a beautiful climb, where the devil is mainly in the beginning. Unfortunately, it is also very popular with motorcycle enthusiasts.
In augustus 2021 was dit de 1ste klim van onze eigen Gotthard Challenge. Het is een pracht van een beklimming, waarbij het venijn zich toch vooral in het begin zit. Jammer genoeg is deze ook erg populair bij motorliefhebbers.
Done in July2019 as part of Nufenen/Gotthard/Furka/Grimsel. When I started this the best was already gone, but despite that it was still enjoyable.
The famous hairpin with James Bond hotel is on the other side!
Gedaan in juli2019 als onderdeel van Nufenen/Gotthard/Furka/Grimsel. Toen ik hieraan begon was het beste er al af, maar ondanks dat was het toch nog genieten.
De befaamde haarspeldbocht met James Bond hotel ligt aan de andere zijde!

High mountain décor and actually also a bit of film scenery so to speak.
Some car and motorcycle drivers also felt like they were in pursuit with a lot of noise and speed.
Forget the train, this is a must-see for cyclists!

Nufenen/Gotthard/Furka (tegen wijzers zin) afsloot.
Hooggebergtedecor en eigenlijk ook een beetje filmdecor bij manier van spreken.
Enkele auto en moto bestuurders waanden zich ook in de achtervolging met veel lawaai en snelheid.
Vergeet de trein, dit moet je absoluut op fietsen!
