Not really a nice climb because there are not many panoramic views. Certainly not to underestimate how hard and irregular the first part is. When you reach the top, you suddenly find yourself in the middle of the Chartreuse massif where it's incredible cycling!
Eigenlijk niet zo´n mooie klim omdat er maar weinig panoramische zichten zijn. Zeker niet te onderschatten hoe zwaar en onregelmatig het eerste deel is. Wanneer je de top bereikt kom je plots midden in het massief van Chartreuse terecht waar het ongeloofelijk mooi fietsen is!
One of the hardest passes around Grenoble. a beautiful landscape overlooking the valley and the climb is regular so not too uncomfortable to climb!
Un des cols les plus durs autour de Grenoble. un beau paysage qui donne sur la vallée et la montée est régulière donc pas trop d'inconfort à le gravir !

I'm french and was born in Grenoble (I live in Belgium now) so I know the region like the back of my hand. The climb to the Col de Porte is already fun, long and tough but you can extend it by going to the Chalets de Charmant Som: 6 km more climbing by the highest paved road of the Chartreuse (altitude 1650 m). Do not forget to try the very steep climb to the Fort Saint-Eynard: in the middle of the climb of the col de Porte, just before Le Sappey, turn right towards the Fort, and then you will have a very steep climb of about 4 km to one of the most beautiful panoramas of the French Alps...
Ik ben een Fransman die in Grenoble geboren is (ik woon nu in België) en ik ken dus die streek als mijn broekzak. De klim naar de Col de Porte is al leuk, lang en pittig maar je kan hem verlengen door naar de Chalets de Charmant Som te rijden: 6 km meer klimwerk door de hoogste verharde weg van de Chartreuse (hoogte 1650 m). Vergeet ook niet de zeer steile klim naar de Fort Saint-Eynard te proberen: midden in de klim van de col de Porte, vlak voor Le Sappey, sla rechts af richting die Fort, en dan krijg je een zeer steile klim van ongeveer 4 km naar één van de mooiste panorama van de Franse Alpen…
