The first ten kilometres are hellish, my bryton marked gradients greater than those in the graph above. It never went below 14％. Zero traffic. You ride 10 km in silence through the forest on a narrow but well-paved road. I only encountered one tractor coming down on the way up and it was difficult because the tractor took up almost the entire road. Arriving at the entrance to the Strada degli Alpini, the slopes become much more accessible. A very beautiful and scenic point is the Salto della Capra (Goat's Leap), which is encountered a few kilometres after the exit onto the main road from Pederobba. One must be very well trained and extremely concentrated to do it all the way to the Bassano refuge.
I primi dieci km sono infernali, il mio bryton segnava pendenze superiori a quelle del grafico sopra riportato. Non scendeva mai sotto il 14％. Traffico zero. Si percorrono 10km in silenzio nel Bosco su una stradina stretta ma ben asfaltata. Ho incontrato solo un trattore scendere mentre salivo ed è stato difficile perché il trattore occupava quasi tutta la strada. Arrivati all'immissione sulla strada degli Alpini le pendenze diventano molto più accessibili. Un punto molto bello e panoramico è il Salto della Capra che si incontra alcuni km dopo l'emissione nella strada principale che arriva da Pederobba. Bisogna essere molto allenati e estremamente concentrati per farla tutta fino al rifugio Bassano.
Irregular climb from Possagno, which starts in the built-up area, but soon leaves the village and continues through a forest. Because of the often bad road surface (many branches, stones and holes in the road) and the varying gradients (sometimes it goes from 7％ to 22％ within a few metres), this is a real beast of a climb.
In between, there are hardly any moments to enjoy the view, but rather to recuperate briefly. When leaving the forest, the worst is over and the road surface improves considerably, but the road still rises occasionally by 15％. However, after the violence of the percentages and the road surface earlier on in the climb, the second part after the forest feels easier despite the high percentages.
At the top, you find yourself in green and serene surroundings, with a view of the Monte Grappa monument in the distance. You can actually reach it via the SP140 (extra up and down and therefore height meters!). In terms of difficulty it is comparable to Punta Veleno at Lake Garda. That climb has a very steep but regular intermediate section, but the irregularity of this climb makes it so difficult.
Onregelmatige klim vanuit Possagno, welke begint binnen de bebouwde kom, maar al snel het dorp verlaat en de weg vervolgt door een bos. Vanwege het vaak slechte wegdek (veel takken, steentjes op en gaten in de weg) en de afwisselende stijgingspercentages (soms gaat het binnen enkele meters van 7％ naar 22％) is dit echt een beest van een klim.
Er zijn tussentijds nauwelijks momenten om van het uitzicht te genieten, maar wel kort te recupereren. Wanneer het bos wordt verlaten, dan is het ergste achter de rug en wordt het wegdek aanzienlijk beter, maar stijgt de weg toch nog af en toe met 15％. Echter, na het geweld door de percentages en het wegdek eerder op de klim, voelt het tweede deel na het bos ondanks de hoge percentages gemakkelijker aan.
Bovenop kom je in een groene en serene omgeving terecht, met een doorkijk op het monument van de Monte Grappa in de verte. Die kun je via de SP140 ook daadwerkelijk bereiken (extra op en af en dus hoogtemeters!). Qua moeilijkheidsgraad vergelijkbaar met de Punta Veleno aan het Gardameer. Die klim heeft een hele steile maar regelmatige tussensectie, maar de onregelmatigheid van deze klim maakt 'm zo lastig.
