From the Sint-Joris-Weert railway station, this little climb starts with a gentle approach that takes you to the back of the Sint-Joris church. Just after the Hillestraat bus shelter, you take a very sharp right turn into Speelbergstraat. The well-run asphalt there gives way to one of slightly lesser quality, and after a few dozen metres you make another sharp turn, this time to the left. There, a steep clinker track looms in front of you.... The grating across the road slows you down, and the ... read more

The grating across the road slows you down, and the bricks don't do your speed any favours either.... After the steep lane, the percentages level off a bit, again the cobbled lane turns into an asphalt lane of questionable quality, but it is certainly rideable on a road bike.

Spicy strip, but too short to really hurt you.

This climb, unknown to me, was once well hidden in a tour near Leuven. If you come from the Leuvensestraat (from Leuven), it is a small street to the left. But the devil is in the 90° bend. Behind that bend (where you have to brake anyway) there is a wall of about 200m. You cannot see it coming at all because the house on the corner of the street blocks all view. If you do not expect that and you have to change gear after the bend, you are seen and you are as good as standing still. I happened to change to the smallest gear before the bend and then you can pedal up. But some in the group, who were also surprised, couldn't get their oversized gear onto the smallest sprocket fast enough, resulting in a clutching chain and a foot on the ground. Very narrow street by the way. I really wouldn't know where to cycle if you had a car on the other side. But I have never come across one.
