Madeira counts some of the steepest bike climbs one can do, but you can also go on the most beautiful hikes through stunning and unparalleled nature. Especially the trek from the Pico do Arieiro to the Pico Ruivo is highly recommended.
It can be quite foggy and cold there, but on a clear day you will get the most breathtaking views. In other parts of the beautiful flower island, you can hike along the legendary levada's, water channels that bring water from the mountains to the farmland down in the valley. These are unique in the world and a must-see.
