Highly recommended to climb the pico Areeiro from the east side. I cycled from Funchal to Camacho (ER102) and via this route (ER203) to the pico. A major advantage in comparison from the other routes, is less traffic than via Monte (ER103) and less steep than the routes from the west side (ER107)

Definitely recommend this climb, surface was good and the views are stunning. Saw no road cyclists (February), probably because it is steep as hell! Some flatter parts and short descents definitely bring the average down, this is harder than 7.4％ average.
