A relatively easy climb where a high average speed can be achieved. The traffic was relatively good despite the fact that I did the route in the peak tourist season. It could also be done as a Cortina - Passo Cimabanche - Misurina - Cortina circuit. Cool circuit around Monte Cristallo... read more

Ring road/through road between Cortina and Drei Zinnen. Crowds were not too bad, road surface fine. As everywhere in the Dolomites, breathtaking views

Drukte viel mee, wegdek prima. Zoals overal in de Dolomieten adembenemende uitzichten

One of the few climbs (if you can call it that) in the Dolomites where it never gets really difficult. There are also many flat and slightly descending parts where you can speed up, so the length shouldn't scare you off. Used as a run-up to the Tre Crime de Lavarado, but otherwise I wouldn't bother taking this road.

From Cortina, amidst heavy traffic, I took the R51 in the direction of Dobbiaco to the Passo Cimabanche.
Mainly slightly rising road with gentle turns that initially follows the valley of the Torrente Boite river, to in the middle part of the tributary valley of the Felizon to climb through some hairpin turns. Last part is almost flat and straight ahead along medieval Ospidale church and two small lakes, to end on the plateau of the desolate summit.
For MTB and gravel cyclists there is a much nicer and completely traffic free paved path built including tunnels and bridges on the old railway Cortina-Dobbiaco.
