The climb starts on Meelenbroekweg between Wolfhaag and Schuttebergseweg. You can get to the start of the climb by entering Raerenderstraat on Eperbaan. De klim begint op de Meelenbroekweg tussen Wolfhaag en de Schuttebergseweg. Je kan aan het begin van de klim komen door op de Eperbaan de Raerenderstraat in te rijden. Dit is een wat golvende weg door een heel mooi deel van het buitengebied van Vaals. Aan het einde ga je dan linksaf de Meelenbroekweg op en kom je vanzelf aan het begin van de klim. Vanaf de Meelenbroekweg ga je rechtsaf de Schuttebergseweg op. Het steilste deel vindt je vanaf het oprijden van de Gemmnicherweg tot de top/grens.

The climb starts relaxed in a small creek valley and, in a beautiful setting, becomes increasingly steeper to the junction where you turn right. This section is relatively flat (even descending at times) but offers nice views to both left and right. On the Gemmenicherweg, the character changes so much - from small quiet roads to a quite busy (also with freight traffic) through road with no cycle path or lane. This section climbs nicely - and leads to a real pass - but the road itself does dampen the score somewhat. The first part of the climb, however, is beautiful.
Het startpunt is wat moeilijk te benaderen maar dan zou je wel een mooie klim missen. Via Raren kan je een leuke aanrijroute maken en ook vanuit Vaals omhoog en dan afdalen via de Wolfhaag biedt een mogelijkheid.
De klim begin relaxed in een beekdalletje en loopt in een mooie omgeving steeds steiler naar de kruising waar je rechtsaf gaat. Dit gedeelte is relatief vlak (zelfs dalend soms) maar biedt zowel naar links als naar rechts mooi uitzicht. Op de Gemmenicherweg verandert het karakter dusdanig - van kleine rustige weggetjes naar een best drukke (ook met vrachtverkeer) doorgaande weg zonder fietspad of -strook. Dit gedeelte klimt lekker - en komt uit op een échte pas - maar de weg zelf dempt de score toch enigszins. Het eerste deel van de klim is echter fraai.
