Leuke klim om helemaal kapot te gaan. De klim draait eigenlijk om de eerste 500 meter. Gemiddeld percentage is meer dan 15％. Asfalt is heel slecht en er is verder nauwelijks uitzicht.
Oy oy, this is a tough one. Entering this path from the main road, you can't quite see what a monster it actually is. You do notice immediately how poor the road surface is. That does not bode well, you think. And indeed, as you approach the forest, a nasty wall immediately pops up. And the steepness goes on and on. Meanwhile, you lave between the pebbles, bumps and dirt on the road. You keep the pressure on your front wheel because otherwise you lose grip altogether. 'After 300 metres it will be over,' I had said to my cycling buddy. But nothing could be further from the truth. The road does flatten out for a while, but after that there is just another nasty stretch in front of your wheels. That makes this climb surely one of the toughest in the Ardennes.

Dat belooft weinig goeds, denk je. En inderdaad, als je het bos nadert, duikt direct een smerige muur op. En de steilte blijft maar duren. Intussen laveer je tussen de steentjes, hobbels en viezigheid op de weg. Je houdt de druk op je voorwiel omdat je anders helemaal de grip verliest. ‘Na 300 meter is het wel afgelopen’, had ik tegen mijn fietsmaat gezegd. Maar niets is minder waar. De weg vlakt dan wel even af, maar daarna komt er gewoon nog een akelig stuk voor je wielen. Daarmee is deze klim toch wel een van de zwaarsten van de Ardennen.
What a climb! I'd heard about it a few years ago when the climb was part of the Jean Nelissen Classic. You don't want to do this to a rider after 200km :-P (cramp guaranteed!) Moderate to bad and polluted road surface, but beautiful scenery. When you come out of the woods it flattens out. Tip: cross the road and make the climb all the way up. You can then turn back to Vianden via the reservoir.
Wat een klim! Ik had er over gehoord dat de klim een paar jaar geleden als afsluiter in de Jean Nelissen Classic zat. Dit wil je een renner na 200km niet aandoen :-P (kramp gegarandeerd!) Matig tot slecht en vervuild wegdek, maar mooie omgeving. Als je de bossen uit bent gekomen vlakt het af. Als tip: steek de weg over en maak de klim helemaal af naar boven. Je kunt dan terug draaien naar Vianden via het stuwmeer.

Loodzware klim op kleine weg door het bos met slecht wegdek. Na het bos vlakt de weg af en krijg je zicht op het kasteel van Vianden. Verder geen kip te bekennen. Boven kun je afdalen richting het kasteel.
This is literally a wall. Totally undiscovered. You drive right past it. The road surface is especially bad at the beginning. Yet it is a nice challenge because pretty soon you hit the 20％. Only the experienced climbers can get up here without having to dismount.
Dit is letterlijk een muur. Totaal onontdekt. Je rijdt er zo voorbij. Het wegdek is vooral aan het begin slecht. Toch is het een mooie uitdaging want al vrij snel tik je de 20％ aan. Alleen de geoefende klimmers komen hier boven zonder afstappen.
