A very beautiful and demanding climb that must be tackled with a great deal of respect and preparation. I remember tackling it on a rainy day at the end of July, totally alone, and the atmosphere on the climb was incredible: I felt like I was the last man on Earth.... read more

This version is a great choice when climbing, it's a narrow road with no traffic, all under the trees shadow with many hairpins that never make you bored and it goes through two villages, Stermizza and Montemaggiore (the latter with a really steep short ramp). The road is in good condition.

The last 4km are the same for all the version, it's the steepest part (it's not really shown by the graph but it drains my energy every time I climb it), all under direct sun heat, with a 1km long boring straight road that never ends.

When descending I prefer going down by the main road (through Cepletischis), it's wider, has less hairpins and has a better asphalt.

Tough climb, which never lets up for the entire ascent. The section from Savogna to Montemaggiore is on a narrow road, which is fairly sheltered by vegetation and has several hairpin bends. Once we reach Montemaggiore, the vegetation thins out and the final section is on a wide road exposed to the sun. The road surface is excellent from Montemaggiore upwards, while in the first part it is easy to find irregularities and dirt on the asphalt (branches, gravel, etc.); however, nothing that precludes the climb!
