Usually I arrive here when I come cycling from Belgium. This way up the Kruisberg was a nice surprise. The climb starts out good and spicy, then you get a break on the bridge. After that, the climb continues, but the percentages remain in the single digits.
The road surface is not spectacularly good, but certainly not terribly bad. Especially at the beginning the road is okay. Because the road is very quiet you can ride in the middle of the road.

Coming from Eys you see the end of built-up area sign towering above you and you think: What have I started? The part up to the railway bridge is indeed steep, luckily the pressure can be lifted a bit on the bridge itself before the next steep part starts. After that it becomes a bit more manageable until the Kruisberg tree comes in sight. Then another flat piece.
Looking back at the railway bridge you have a nice view over Eys. Watch out for the many descents from the Kruisberg to the Eyserbosweg.

Daarna wordt het iets handelbaarder totdat de Kruisberg-boom in zicht komt. Dan nog ff een plat stukje.
Achterom kijkend bij de spoorbrug heb je een heel mooi uitzicht over Eys. Wel een beetje oppassen voor de vele afdalers die vanaf de Kruisberg onderweg zijn naar de Eyserbosweg.

Veel gebruikt als afdaling vanaf de Kruisberg, maar het ook zeker waard als klim. Het eerste steile stuk denk ik altijd wel even vol op te kunnen knallen, tot de spoorbrug lukt het altijd wel. Het stuk daarna duurt dan toch altijd nog wel wat langer dan gehoopt. Toch wel een mooie klim om de benen even te testen.
