From Beaurecueil, the Collet Blanc starts out as a quiet, almost innocent route. The first few pedal strokes follow one another without difficulty and you think you've found a gentle climb, ideal for warming up. But this impression is deceptive: in the middle, the slope changes and becomes a trap, requiring strong legs and a deeper breath. Fortunately, the perfect surface allows you to concentrate fully on your effort, without fearing the pitfalls of the road. There is almost total silence, with only a few breaths and birdsong to punctuate the climb, as traffic is scarce, as if this road were reserved for cyclists. And then, after the hardest part, the magic happens: Sainte-Victoire emerges, imposing and luminous, like a reward offered to those who have had the courage to climb. It's a short climb, but one that's full of character, where effort meets contemplation, and from which you'll come away wanting to return.
Super climb, steep ~8% fairly short section, the rest is continuous and regular
This irregular ascent is made on a little frequented road and allows to discover at the bend of a curve the magnificent southern slope of the Sainte-Victoire mountain, emblematic summit of the region. Beautiful photos to be taken with the reddish earth in the foreground...
The only real difficulty of this ascent lies in the double lace that precedes the arrival at the village of Saint-Antonin-sur-Bayon: the slope there exceeds 9 % for a few hundred meters.
Personally I find this climb more pleasant than the one from the Col des Portes via the Col de Claps, on the D10 north of the Mont Sainte-Victoire.
