A very nice climb, and on leaving Pelussin the scenery is much more beautiful, with sunshine and forest. There are few changes of pace on the climb, and you have to find the right one if you don't want to stall. The descent is on its own but there can be a bit of traffic. Well-maintained road top

Route bien entretenu top

A nice, very steady climb on generally good quality tarmac. Not too many cars past Pélussin. The start isn't too difficult and gives you a good warm-up. However, it's true that the climb is long. You need to save some for the second part of the climb, after a left hairpin bend, the gradient is steeper. The scenery is nice, fairly open at first, then you move into the forest as you climb. However, it's a bit frustrating not to see the Crêt de l'Oeillon pillar until after a few kilometres, and then you lose sight of it almost all the way to the finish. There's a hostel 4-5km from the summit, something like that, if I remember rightly, that might come in handy. The descent is really cool. Wide road and good rendering. You can stop to take a few photos.

A long climb, with the second part being quite tough and long anyway. A friend of mine was completely done with it halfway up on a hot summer afternoon. He turned around and jumped into the river at the foot, cycling suit and all, to cool off.

The col de l'oeillon by chavanay. If you don't know the Pilat it's definitely worth doing. Nice climb with little respite over 20 km. Not much to add, everything has been said before. Beautiful area suitable for hiking.
On foot or by bike. I really recommend

A pied ou vélo . Je recommande vraiment

Hello cycling friends.
I know this climb well as I ride it regularly.
Without any major difficulty from Chavannay to Pelussin where the percentages do not exceed 5%, the climb remains gentle for 3 kms after Pelussin.
Then we turn left and things start to get serious, it's time to face the 10kms of climb "non stop" that is to say one hour at 10km/h of average or 41 min at 15 km/h...
A straight line of 2 kms at 7% with no shadow to start with (up to the farm) sets the tone where a small flat spot of 50m allows you to take a breather before starting again for 1.5kms still at 7% up to the right-hand bend where another 2 kms in a quasi straight line will be crossed up to the Collet crossroads (the "Chalet Reynard de l'oeillon!), which marks a new 50m flat spot, a welcome break.
Up to now the surface was of good quality and allowed a good performance, from the Collet onwards the rest will be different with a kind of corrugated iron that will make you feel like you are climbing a 9% slope when in reality it is only 7,5%, in short you will lose at least one km/h with the same effort!
It's the halfway point and 5 kms remain to be covered with only 2 bends that will give you the impression of going up in a straight line, (plus the corrugated iron!) it's interminable!
The only good news will be the milestone that marks the last kilometre which announces a 2% slope to finish which will allow you to show off if your wife or girlfriend is waiting for you at the pass!
You will be able to make her believe that you have ridden "full ball" if you still have some juice left to accelerate on the finish.
For me, this is a fantastic climb, the most beautiful and the most difficult in the region with more than 1000m of difference in altitude from the bottom and for the amateurs, the possibility of going back down the other side to join Pelussin via Varane because the road is magnificent on this side too.
Have a good time.
Col et Montée.

Bonjour amis cyclistes.
