Een ideale schaduwklim voor als het heet is. Het begin gaat aan een matig stijgingspercentage maar in de bocht zie je een plakkaat verschijnen dat waarschuwt voor een steile helling en dat is zeker niet gelogen. Na de bocht wacht je met wat verbeelding een echte muur.
This is a nice one to do if you want to go from the Scheldt to the hills. This way, unlike the Wolvenberg, Katteberg etc, you can largely avoid Oudenaarde. The climb itself is trickier than you might expect. The problem is that when you start it, it doesn't seem that difficult and you may start too fast on the first stretch of valks flat. As you go over the spring grate it gets steeper with the last section in particular still quite steep and on poorly run concrete. When you get to the top there is a crossroads where you have to hope no one comes from the right!
Dit is een leuke om te doen als je van de Schelde naar de heuvels wilt. Op deze manier kan je, in tegenstelling tot de Wolvenberg, Katteberg etc, Oudenaarde grotendeels vermijden. De klim zelf is lastiger dan je zou verwachten. Het probleem is dat wanneer je er aan begint deze niet zo lastig lijkt en je mogelijk te snel start op het eerste stuk valks plat. Als je over de veerooster gaat wordt het steiler met vooral het laatste stuk toch behoorlijk steil en op slecht lopend beton. Als je boven komt is er een kruispunt waar je moet hopen dat er niemand van rechts komt!

Komende van Gent was dit de eerste klim en het is inderdaad een stevige. Zeker op het eind een lastig stuk en hopen dat er geen auto's komen op de splitsing! Maar al bij al een leuke opener😊

Het is makkelijk om deze beklimming te onderschatten. Voor het grootste gedeelte loopt de weg gezapig omhoog op een redelijk lopende betonbaan. Het pittige slot is niet zichtbaar tot je de bocht naar links neemt. Als je toch al wat veel gegeven hebt op de aanloop, zal het slot stevig pijn doen.
