Coming from Ghent, this was the first climb and it is indeed a tough one. Especially at the end a tricky piece and hope that there are no cars at the junction! But all in all a nice opener😊
Komende van Gent was dit de eerste klim en het is inderdaad een stevige. Zeker op het eind een lastig stuk en hopen dat er geen auto's komen op de splitsing! Maar al bij al een leuke opener😊
Because you cannot see the steep part, this is a vicious thing. When you approach the bend, you will see a road sign indicating the gradient: 12％! If this is the first climb of the day after 30 km of pedalling along the Scheldt on the big slab, it is a sudden transition and you really feel that you need to get into the climbing rhythm.
Doordat je het steile stuk niet ziet liggen is dit een venijnig ding. Wanneer je de bocht nadert zie je wel een verkeersbord staan dat de hellingsgraad aangeeft: 12％! Als dit de eerste beklimming van de dag is nadat je 30km hebt liggen stoempen langs de Schelde op de grote plaat is het een bruuske overgang en voel je echt wel dat je nog in het klimritme moet komen.
It is easy to underestimate this climb. For the most part, the road climbs gently on a reasonably smooth concrete track. The tough lock is not visible until you take the left turn. If you have already given a bit much on the way up, the final section will hurt a lot.
Het is makkelijk om deze beklimming te onderschatten. Voor het grootste gedeelte loopt de weg gezapig omhoog op een redelijk lopende betonbaan. Het pittige slot is niet zichtbaar tot je de bocht naar links neemt. Als je toch al wat veel gegeven hebt op de aanloop, zal het slot stevig pijn doen.
