Maybe it was because it was my first serious tour but I found it the most difficult climb I have ever done, the destination is disappointing because you don't get a view of the landscape and the scenery didn't excite me that much, it is more worth it for a personal challenge than anything else.
I am putting 4 stars to average out the 2 from the previous review because in my opinion it is 3 stars. The asphalt, although in good condition, is the worst I have ever seen in Switzerland, the road is only scenic in the initial section but the nature is always priceless. I started out from Locarno to do a nice warm-up before beginning the climb to Cevio: the first part on the hairpin bends with regular gradients is easy to pedal, after which the semi-flat section is a continuous alternation of flat stretches and small tears that make it impossible to maintain a regular pace. Even when the road begins to climb again, unfortunately, the gradient is never regular except in the hardest section (the last 2-3 km are almost always around 12-13%). Climbing up on a Saturday in late September, I encountered virtually no traffic and several fountains along the way, even outside the towns.
Rather uneven climb: it begins with a series of hairpin bends with a fair gradient then, at a small village it flattens out and climbs more gently. The real climb resumes 4 km later with gradients of around 8% , past the village of Cerentino the hardest part begins (the gradients are even greater than those in the graph, around 11/12 % for a few km), try to arrive with something still in your legs. The climb winds its way along a mainly forested mountain valley, the arrival village is very beautiful and picturesque with its old Walser houses. Fun descent
