The climb to Alpe Piazza is a tough one, but definitely worth it. The average gradient is around 8%, with frequent sections of 10% or more. The steepest sections even briefly reach 17%, though these are only a few short stretches. In the villages, the road levels off to about 4 to 5%, which are great moments to catch your breath.
The pavement is generally good, but the last few kilometers are quite rough and sometimes feel more like gravel than asphalt. However, it’s still perfectly manageable on a road bike with 30 mm tires. The views are among the most beautiful you’ll find on the north side of Lake Como. Along the way, you’ll also come across several drinking fountains, including one just before the summit, which makes this climb especially pleasant on hot days.

Nice climb with great views to lake Como. I counted 30 hairpins and encountered almost no traffic in the early morning. Some steep sections, especially in the middle. Towards the end, the road surface becomes gradually worse. While climbing, this is not a big issue. On the descent, expect to be slow because of the poor road surface.
Spectacular climb, both in terms of scenery and traffic: practically nil.
Asphalt in excellent condition except for a few stretches towards the end (always good anyway) with a couple of concrete sections but in good condition.
The first stretch is rideable, then the middle one is the most challenging with 3-4 km always over 10%, by feel, then it becomes rideable again.
At the top it's alpe, with the asphalt road that stops and the dirt road begins.
A jewel of the upper Lario
