Ascent done at the gran fondo Santini Stelvio 2025. Done in the rain, impossible to get on the pedals because of the slimy bottom with lichen in some sections. Narrow road with some gradients always in double digits, central stretch of 5 km at 11% average, fortunately there are many hairpin bends to breathe just a few meters.. The last km seemed never ending, I climbed it in 1h 28', at a steady and somewhat conservative pace ( I highly recommend) also in anticipation of the next Stelvio... read more

It is a very challenging but steady climb, once you get into a rhythm you get used to that pace.

Extreme. Good but narrow and dirty road surface, mostly shady, seldom below 10%, the final 1,5km are the steepest. Each hairpin (many!) shows a "suffering panel" with next average slope and remaining distance: from hairpin2 to hairpin1 it is ... infinite! On top turning left towards Mortirolo pass will reward with beautiful views over the valley. Water refill at start in Tirano only (near train station).

A real killer - hard as a rock & steep climbing, but beautifully idyllic and with extremely little traffic 😋🤪

The Mortirolo from Mazzo is not harder, just more unrhythmic 🤘🏼

Mamma mia what a climb! Nothing to envy the Mortirolo from Mazzo Valtellina. The road is always quite narrow (3.0-3.5 m?) and with more than thirty hairpin bends it takes us up to 1,850 m, almost all of it in the woods, always shady. The asphalt is satisfactory... but I wouldn't do it downhill. The signs at each hairpin bend are excellent: they indicate the metres to the pass and the average gradient to the next hairpin bend. If you continue towards the Mortirolo with about 200 m of uphill and downhill you will enjoy a really beautiful panoramic road with no traffic. Enjoy the ascent!

Buona salita!

Made in the unfortunate edition of the GF Stelvio Santini in 2023 (unfortunate in that we had heavy rain and suspension of the Stelvio climb). It is an "Mortirolo" unprecedented made by Giro Under 23 in 2022. Like all Mortiroli climbs, the climb is often hidden under the woods and basically useless in the sense that you get nowhere. At the top then with a substantially even road you arrive at the Mortirolo Pass. Excellent asphalt. 37 hairpin bends. The steepest slopes are appreciated in the last kilometre and a half.
