Agree with you Henk, climbs with "holes" should be punished by a scoring formula as you can recover during a flat bit or even a descent (as in the case of Col de Haussire) ;-)

Instead of one continuous climb this is rather a series of three, rather short climbs... I was a bit disappointed to be honest and overall I found it less difficult than some other Ardennes climbs, it is closer to a 200 difficulty score in my view

Nice cobblestone climb. Not too steep except with the exception of the central hump. Steepest part can get slippery in the rain or after showers.

Mean little climb on the Brabantse Pijl. Cobbles on the second half create for an interesting path... Ridden recently after some showers and it is really slippery. Nice climb to complement a longer ride in the area.

Great climb, with a couple of points in which is pretty steep. The street is very good, traffic is low, and the view at the end it totally worth the effort!

A tough climb up the pass so keep something in reserve before you get to the top. Be careful of the wind as it can be very strong at the summit leaving you fearful of the descent. Traffic is usually light which is good. Well worth doing if you are in the area and the climb from the other side (Thwaite) is even harder.

A stunning climb that has you looking at the scenery rather than the road all the way up. Not too punishing if you can find a nice rhythm and the promise of a coffee at the top keeps the motivation going. Fairly light traffic is nice to have and you can admire the views and ski runs while climbing.

Very tough climb but wonderfully thrilling to get to the finish. Up to the telegraphe and the village of Valloire are ok and enjoyable but it gets much harder afterwards with 10% gradient the norm. The final hairpin bends make the legs hurt but keep pushing and the end is in sight. Be careful of traffic as there are lots of cars and motorcycles climbing the mountain at the same time.

overhyped indeed, the steep bit is hard, but that is normal when you are on a road bike! careful, total lack of shade on a sunny day! in a sense it is more a social event thing ...

Fabulous climb that is challenging but not silly. Lacets are great fun without going over 8 percent in gradient. Nice cafe at the top for a quick drink and bite to eat before coming down. Hardly any traffic and we thoroughly enjoyed the ride and I would recommend having a go at it for anyone.

Very nice climb this. Great road surface, and at the start of September, only a small amount of traffic - although I heard from the locals that it's horrendous in the peak of summer!

The average gradient would put this at a fairly tough climb, but it's one you can take quite easily spinning in the lowest gear. Spoilt for views of the valley for the first half before you get high enough to see Mont Blanc in the distance. Amazing sight and you'll want to stop for a photo.

Great views at the top as well, and a nice cafe with spectacular views back across the valley.

While there is a reasonable amount of shade on this climb, best to tackle in the morning when it's cooler. Would be a nightmare during the afternoon heat with the sun on your back.

Headed over form Chamonix to do this climb, and glad I did. Never heard of it before I started investigating the local area... a climb that featured on a key Tour de France stage, although I have no memory of watching it on the tv!

Very quiet roads make this a very peaceful climb, with some truly great views. But it is a slog, and I did this on a very hot day and there is almost no cover, so be prepared if you're doing this when the sun's out - try and do first thing in the morning so it's cooler.

At the top, it is a strange sight to see the dinosaur - that was a new one on me. I'm used to seeing statues of past riders or of bike bikes! Great views from the top back down the valley, across to Mont Blanc and of the dam itself. Also a little shop and a cafe with very friendly staff, so you can get your energy fix before descending back down.

Nothing amazing about this climb... I was only doing this to get back to Chamonix. But the road surface is really good, and the traffic pretty light, compared to the very busy other side of Montets. Nice to climb in amongst the trees and the view over the tops and into Chamonix are great.

On it's own, I wouldn't recommend, but getting over to do Barrage d'Emosson(from Chamonix earlier that day) and the descent on the other side back to Chamonix are pretty damn good and make it worth the trip (assuming you're in Chamonix).

Not great this climb. From a stats point of view, it's really easy and not really a challenge, but it's just loaded with traffic. Everything from speeding holiday-goers to massive trucks with building materials. Without the traffic, this would be a lovely climb, but if you're keen to get over the border to do a few of the Swiss climbs, you have to do this Montets one.

Despite not being the best, it is worth it to get over and do Barrage d'Emosson, and also experience the descent back into Chamonix - that is pretty special with the mountains as your constant view.

Really nice climb this. Pretty quiet and very peaceful at the top... although that may be because the top in Avoriaz is basically a massive car park, which seems to be empty in the summer.

Some great views on the way up, and a few places with trees offering shade on a hot day. Nice to have the Tour de France km markers all the way up as well, although there is not obvious finishing point... the last sign/marker is 1.3km to go, then.... nothing. Bit weird, but obviously doesn't take anything away from the climb itself.

Nothing at the top for water or a coffee, but back down the slope a short way is a good cafe - right on the Joux-Vert sign.

Descent down the Joux-verte via the lake is definitely worth it. Great descent, good roads and some lovely views back into Morzine.

Bit of a climb to avoid, if i'm honest. In isolation, the climb is fine... good surface but not much in the way of views. The problem really lies with getting there - you have to ride on an extremely busy road. Pretty much all the drivers are good with cyclists, but not much room when a huge truck passes you by. A terrible road and not worth it for this climb. Also, absolutely nothing going on at the top. Cafes and restaurants, but nothing open... I assume because there's nothing happening up here so no visitors.

The other issue is how busy the Corbier is. It's just constant traffic. I don't know this area well, but it must be a key route to somewhere - although, looking at the map I have no idea what that could be. Along with the constant traffic, everyone speeds like you wouldn't believe. Cars revving up the pass and speeding down across the whole road. Really not great and it's not like anything i've experience riding in the alps before. I wonder if this is this a rally route or something? I'm really not exaggerating this... I really would avoid it. Certainly not a climb i will ever do again.

The difficulty score on this one should be taken with a spoon full of salt, the climb is an unpleasant long grind up with gradient slowly increasing, the road surface is very rough (I had 25 clinchers) to which you have to add typically headwinds in this direction and dense road traffic including many trucks as well as motor bikes taking chances in overtaking manoeuvres; but other way up is even worse as numerous trucks tend to get "stuck" in the steep bits and will engage in long and unpleasant overtaking manoeuvres with cyclists; too be avoided.

Agree with the other comments, did it several times in Spring 2021; take it easy on the start ("wall") where gradient can be up to 18% according to bike computer

There are actually two climbs: first, if you continue all the way to the top, it is 768m ascent with the last bit on gravel. Second, and this is the one described here, after 11km you turn left to "Abtenau" which makes 725m of ascent. From my own measurements in July 2021 when I did both versions, the Lienbachersattel was classified a category 1 climb as a Strava segment (15.82km at an average of 4.6%), the route to the top with the gravel finish was also classified category 1 with 13.31km, 768m of climbing at average 5.8%). I can highly recommend this climb even on a very sunny day as this side of the climb benefits from large stretches of forest which allows to recover and refresh during the climb. The other side, to the contrary, is fully exposed, so if you want to climb up coming from either Hallein or Gosau better choose a cool and/or cloudy day. When you come from the Postalm side, the opening up of the views passing the highest point is quite spectacular on a clear day. You can make a 3 hour east bound loop with Gosau and Bad Ischl, or a 4 hour loop via the Salzach valley connecting Hallein and Fuschl am See.

Hard climb, I had a 52-34 x 11-30 set up and struggled, would like to go back with a 34 cassette and would not choose a sunny day next time as long stretches between hairpins are fully exposed to the (morning) sun. But the views are quite spectacular and I can definitively recommend it. With sunny weather you will also get quite some motor bikes and sports cars racing on the toll road (free for cyclists).

If you are in the Cevennes, this one is worth a detour. Not too hard, a steady 5-6% and the view at the top is impressive. You can combine this climb with a number of shorter and steeper access roads from different points in the valley if you want to add a sting to it :-)

This part of the Sella Ronda tour. All the good and bad things that are associated with the Sella Ronda are valid for this climb as well. Too crowded during Summer but in these surroundings, all is forgiven ;-) It is a short climb so don't forget to enjoy the surroundings because you are at the top before you know it.

As for the other side, this climb is unavoidable when you are based in Corvara or one of the surrounding villages. If you are training, it is one of the better climbs to do your intervals.

If you are based in Corvara, you will climb this pass too often as it is kind of unavoidable. But it is short and over before you know it. The other side is more interesting as it is a good climb for intervals . If you are into that while on vacation :-)

This is a very easy and beautiful climb but you should do it during off season or you will be cycling amongst hiking families. Nothing against hikers but a crowd is a crowd.

This is the better way to climb Alpes d'Huez: less people and better views. If you are in the area: put it on your list and you will not be disappointed.

For me, this climb boiled down to 1hr in zone 3 (tempo), which made it a really good training ride. Once you are at the top, the view is spectacular: one of the best views you are going to get in the Dolomites.

This is a hard climb. I spent three weeks in the Dolomites and while this may not be the most beautiful climb, it sure was the hardest. I guess that is a good reason to put it on your bucket list :-) Just looking at the numbers/profile, it is hard to explain why it is so difficult. But the long stretch of climbing on the straight road before the hairpins did wear me down and the hairpins did the rest. A good challenge :-)

The climb from Solden is shorter than the one from Merano, but the last part takes you through a landscape that is a bit similar to the last part of the Mont Ventoux. A must do :-)

If you are in the Dolomites during August and you get tired of the crowds and cars on the main climbs, then the Passo del Erbe is your best bet. Calm and beautiful.

Coming from Merano, the main issue with this climb is the duration. It is never really steep but it never ends. I took a coffee halfway, just after Moos. The weather was great and to be honest, I would not consider to tackle this climb in any other conditions. But on a good weather day, it is a great climb. I continued to Solden and climbed my way back afterwards. The climb from Solden is shorter and the last part is a gem. Great day!

The first part is great, but the last line from Ruhestein until Hornisgrinde not really interesting, from here better go for Schliffkopf. The view of the plain from Hornisgrinde is quite nice.

Tough start with sun and rather big slopes. Very nice first half if climbing, thé second part is easier, but there is a nice view if the plain from the flat part before arriving on top. Perfect to catch your breath back.

Coming back by the Hornisgrinde brings you at the bottom very fast on 12-13% slopes !

Nice little climb, quite regular slope with nice views, and the splendid castle on the top. Worth descending by Liepvre ;)

Very nice short climb. Didn't do the Otrott-SaintNabor part, coming from East. The view on the top is really nice, the road is OK, I really enjoyed this one !

The view from the top of the col has no interest, but after the 7-8% slope you can see the beautiful valley and some nice ruins.
I found this climb not really interesting, a lot of "faux plat" making it a long climb but quite boring in my opinion. Not hard but undermining effort.
Maybe the clouds and rain didn't help having a good time 😬

Did this hill after climbing Mont Ventoux from Bédoin followed by a descent to Malaucène, to reach Bédoin again. Not especially worth making a detour to include this small col.

I rented a Focus Izalco road bike in Bormio (Spot-On) for €60 and did this climb in July 2021. Very beautiful climb with hairpins to the towers, followed by a flat section along the Lago Scale, towards the Lago di Cancano and Lago di San Giacomo. The course around the Lago di Cancano and Lago di San Giacomo is unpaved, but, if you arrive by road bike, I highly recommend to rent a mountainbike in "Rent a Bike Cancano" (€4 per hour) so you can do the +/- 17 km course around the lakes. If I would have known, I would have rented a mountainbike from the beginning to do the ascent to the Torri di Fraele as well. Beautiful views on the lakes and surrounding mountains! Almost no cars as they have to pay a ticket to drive to the Torri. Not the toughest day on my biking holiday in Bormio but definitely the most beautiful.

I rented a Focus Izalco road bike in Bormio (Spot-On) for €60 and did this climb on a car free day (check the information from Enjoy Stelvio National Park to see which 2-3 days in the summer the climbs around Bormio are car free). Nice view on the village of Bormio. Wide road and not a technical descent. Good warming up for Gavia, Stelvio and Mortirolo in the next days. Can be combined with the nicer climb to Torri di Fraele / Lago di Cancano. On top is a ski resort from where you can continue to Bormio 3000 on a mountainbike (see for example: https://www.cycling-challenge.com/bormio-2000-and-above-to-bormio-3000/).

Starting just north from Sisteron at 39°C, I biked on a rented Nakamura bike (Intersport Sisteron, €35) to Valbelle and to Montagne de Lure, and back (+/- 85 km). The heat probably played a role and I wasn't completely happy and comfortable on my bike, but I feel this is a deceptively tough climb, which made me suffer way harder than expected. Mainly in the forest, only after reaching Pas de la Graille you'll have nice views. No amenities.

Rented a decent Scott road bike in La Foux d'Allos (Chez Marcel, Skiset) for €35 and did the Col d'Allos from both sides. The Barcelonette side is way more beautiful, you're climbing over a narrower road and have nice views. This Colmars side is relatively boring from Colmars to Allos and La Foux, where you're riding on a relatively wide road. It gets way more interesting, more beautiful (views, hairpins) ánd steeper after La Foux.

Rented a decent Scott road bike in La Foux d'Allos (Chez Marcel, Skiset) for €35 and did the Col d'Allos from both sides. The Barcelonette side is way more beautiful, you're climbing over a narrower road and have nice views. The Colmars side is relatively boring from Colmars to Allos and La Foux, and gets only interesting, beautiful ánd steeper after La Foux. During the ascent from Barcelonette, I was surrounded by crowds of flies from +/- 1500m high to +/- 2100m high, extremely annoying.

Since I had to go back in the afternoon to the airport for my flight back, I left around 6.30 on a Focus Izalco road bike (rented from Bormio Spot-On for €60). Big contrast with the nearby Stelvio: the Gavia is calmer, with equally beautiful nature but less legendary views on hairpins etc. Near the top you bike along the beautiful Lago Bianco. The climb was car free but only from 8.30, so I saw hundreds of bikers going up when I was descending. Check the information from Enjoy Stelvio National Park to see when it will be car free again. Take a jacket. There are no photographers along the road, so no professional souvenir as it is the case on the Stelvio.

I rented a Focus Izalco road bike in Bormio (Spot-On) for €60 and started the ascent, which was my first cycling col ever without any preparation, so had to stop a few times... Great road, great views, beautiful hairpins, so many other fellow cyclists. Unfortunately also many cars and motorbikes turning it a bit into a circus. On a few summer days, no cars or motorbikes are allowed on the climb: check the information from Enjoy Stelvio National Park. Plenty food and drinks options on the top, as well as souvenirs and cycling gear. Take a jacket for the downhill. There are professional photographers along the road so you can order your souvenir online (fotostelvio.com or stelviofoto.com). In hindsight this was a difficult climb to start with and I recommend to try out Bormio 2000, Torri di Fraele and Lago di Cancano, or Gavia first.

Great climb from Bédoin. I rented a Trek Emonda road bike for €60 in La Route du Ventoux. Service is not great or friendly (you also have to pay in advance + €400 caution), but bike was good (except for faulty shifter for the front gears). Without additional costs they added a 32 cassette which was very useful. Immediately from the bike shop you can start the climb and you'll meet a lot of fellow bikers of all levels which make this ascent pleasant and entertaining. Eating and drinking on the top is possible. I descended to Malaucène and biked then 12 km back to Bédoin. I ate a delicious pasta salad in Le Flandrien next to the bike shop. Roads are in very good condition. Along the climb there are photographers from photoventoux.com and sport-photo.fr where you can search your photos the next day and order them as a souvenir (without watermark). I recommend the Bédoin side as it's the most popular side of the mountain, in the descent to Malaucène I saw few riders, as well as on the easier Sault side (where I drove by car). This was a great biking memory and surprisingly doable. Compared to Stelvio from Bormio (which has the same length and slightly easier average percentage), I suffered way less.

I rented a Rossignol mountainbike in Bormio (Spot-On) for €60 and went down to Mazzo di Valtellina, from where I started the ascent to Passo della Foppa / Mortirolo. The road from Bormio to Mazzo (28-30 km) is lovely (and downhill), you can bike along the Adda river on the very well maintained Sentiero Valtellina. The climb from Mazzo di Valtellina is absolutely brutal, hence I chose a mountainbike instead of road bike. Don't do this climb for the views or the nature, but for the achievement of reaching the top. Cars are relatively rare on the climb, as well as fellow bikers which surprised me. I saw only 3 or 4 other riders and the conversations were rather short ("Che caldo!",...). Cannot imagine what it feels like to be a fat sprinter during Giro d'Italia, lagging behind after a previous climb, and then fighting for time limit on this Mortirolo. I had a very cheap and welcome pasta in Rifugio Antonioli, which is located approximately half a km below the top. What actually killed me was the way back to Bormio: Mazzo is situated at 500 m above sea level, while Bormio lies at 1200 m, so take this into account. On a few summer days, no cars or motorbikes are allowed on the climb: check the information from Enjoy Stelvio National Park.

I had to take this climb a few times to get to/from Intra. Not to be underestimated after 1800m of climbing in the legs. Very busy and road condition is ok.

Just a monumental climb. Started out just before dawn so I could get it 'out of the way' before i had my actual holiday.

Very long climb, and very peaceful so early in the morning. I only saw a goat and one other rider - some older chap who must have gone up even earlier than I did!

At the top, i've never seen anything like it. A massive mountain with a massive monument. It's huge and spent ages just wandering around it and checking it out.

Amazing descent and a must-do climb. I'd be keen to try some other the other routes ups - I think there's about ten of them!
