Ridden this climb in mid-July. Beautiful but a very tough climb - especially the last 5km are gruelling with an average of 9.6% and regularly percentages up to 16% - good condition required! Early in the morning I left Kaltenbach to add the Zillergründl to my list of climbs. After just under 20 flat kilometres, I turn into the side valley of the Zillergründl Speicher. Outside the built-up area you get a briefly steep section. Just to put the legs under tension, so to speak. The remainder is considerably less steep. It is a beautiful and undulating road through lush pine forests interspersed with alpine meadows. En passant, you come across some waterfalls. Enjoyment with the big G. However, after you pass the last houses and a guesthouse, the fun is over. Or not for the climbing goats among us. As the landscape becomes more open and impressive, the gradient increases sharply. In the distance, you can see the concrete wall of the dam looming. And I know from experience that the steepest parts often come then. And the Zillergründl Speicher does not disappoint either. As we cycle through some narrow but lit tunnels we end up in the double digits. With our mouths on our handlebars, we reach the top of the dam. The view is fantastic and, after all, that's what we do it all for.

Ridden this climb in mid-July. Beautiful but a very tough climb - especially the last 5km are gruelling with an average of 9.6% and regularly percentages up to 16% - good condition required!
Recommended to leave on time so there is little to no traffic - I myself left 6.30am and was back in Mayrhofen by 9.30am - hardly any traffic during descent so I could descend with peace of mind (40km/h average).
Also, this climb is a toll road - free for cyclists - cars and motorbikes paying.

This climb is also very well known for bike and hike tours - the area around the lake is also known as Little Tibet - you can do beautiful hikes there!

For your information : climb 1h42 - descent 30min
Tip: Don't forget to climb the Schlegeis Stausee - I personally like this one better - it also has 4 tunnels
but there are traffic lights so you can descend safely in the narrow parts of the tunnels.

This is a beautiful climb through forest and alpine meadows, with a very tough finish. The start from Mayrhofen is already beautiful, through forest and under rock tunnels. Then the real journey to the reservoir begins. For many kilometres you follow the Ziller and you can cycle on. You will come across a few restaurants (Gasthof), so that you can take a break. Finally, you come across a closed tree with a warning sign that you are cycling through the last tunnels at your own risk. Cars (and buses!) have priority. You climb above the 10% through 3 tunnels, personally not my favourite part. The road to the tunnels I find beautiful.
