I agree with Kevin: a tough climb! I did it at the beginning of August in warm weather. From meter 1 the double percentages start and only stop in the last km. The first 3 km are through villages and open terrain without shelter. After 3 km the road goes into the forest and the rest of the climb there is regular shelter. After 5 km you come to a barrier. Other road users have to pay toll here, you as a cyclist do not. The road surface is variable: new sections alternate with bad sections. There is little or no traffic. I was a bit disappointed by the highest point of the climb: I had expected a hut or something. If you continue along the paved road (after a short descent) you will arrive at a ski lift and you can probably eat something, or in my case, fill your water bottles. The descent is sometimes a challenge because of the bad tarmac and double percentages.
I think you can also do the ascent in the other direction (or descent) but then on a MTB over a dirt road.

Another 'hors categorie'climb near Lienz. The climb starts just outside the city and immediately goes towards double percentages. The climb is ten kilometers long, with percentages that never go lower than 10 percent and hardly a rest stop. You also feel like you are alone in the world on this climb. After the summit, there is a short descent to the ski lifts (and restaurants).
