The initial stretch just outside Arquà Petrarca is very hard. 700 metres always close to 20% with a narrow road surrounded by trees that leave you breathless. Having reached the Mottolone plateau, and its beautiful panorama to the south-west, the road flattens out and then proceeds in spurts (a particularly demanding one above 10%). The summit of Roverello, not to be confused with the Roverello pass, which is on the Cingolina state road a few tens of metres lower down, is located approximately at the La Teresa restaurant, from which there is a stupendous view. The road to cross the highest point and reach the Roverello Pass was resurfaced in the autumn of 2023, and thus guarantees a fairly safe and pleasant descent. The traffic is relatively heavy at weekends, otherwise you go up and down without encountering many people, at most a few mountain bikers who find very interesting trails in the surroundings.
