After the Stelvio, climbed this one. Quiet climb in terms of traffic, definitely not in terms of percentage. Was it nice to have the Stelvio in the legs, yes. Is it nice to have these in the legs before the Stelvio, definitely. Up to the ski lift at the very end at least 9 hairpins, a tunnel and the descent otherwise a nice climb. After the little bit of descent after Gomagoi, the fun begins around kilometre marker 1. The first hairpins loom up and the percentage rises above 10% and this continues past kilometre marker 5. Then recover for the last 4 hairpins just before Solda and the village is reached. In the village, one more hairpin and then a short ride to the end.

Climb to Sulden/Solda (do not confuse with Austrian Sölden) already twice cycled up.
The first 7 km. climb from Prad along the Suldenbach river is the same as the well-known Stelvio climb.
In Gomagio we leave the busy Stelvio route on the left and we even have to cycle downhill for a while. After a bridge over the river we have to climb via some hairpin bends followed by a murderous steep section of +10% to Solda di Fuori . The route is a well laid out wide road with lit tunnel and galleries to bring winter tourists safely to the ski station. Towards the end, the gradient flattens out and you can cycle all the way through the touristy mountain village for some extra altitude gain to the parking lot of the cable car. You have a beautiful view on King Ortler (3905m) the highest peak of South Tyrol.
Solda/Sulden has always had a special attraction.
For several years it was the training ground for racing cyclist Thomas De Ghendt.
Michaël Jackson once stayed there but I don't think he rode his bike to the top.
Reinhold Messner, world famous alpinist who was the first to climb Everest without oxygen, can also be found in his Messner Mountain Museum - Ortles.

Beautiful climb in the National Park Stilfserjoch / Parco Nazionale delle Stelvio as a warming up to the "Stelvio"feeling in the legs to get.
