After a short descent out of La Villa, the climbing starts and you take on a few hairpins in the first 1km. After this the climb is varied for the next 6km with sections between flat and roughly 9%. During this section you pass through Costadedoi, San Ciascian and Armentarola. There are some great views along these sections and the riding is fairly easy. From 7km things start to change and climb becomes more challenging with average gradients around 8%, getting steeper the further you climb. Eventually the gradients start to ease in the final km and you are rewarded with magnificent views as you pass the Forte Tre Sassi (Great War) museum to the sign identifying the top of the climb. From here, you can descend to the top of the Passo Falzarego. A nice climb on a good weather day.

Passo Valparola from La Villa I found a beautiful climb that is definitely worth a considerable diversions. I give this climb 4 and not 5 stars because it is a busy road and the real beauty of the climb, in my opinion, is only in the second half of the climb. At the top of the pass is a nice café with stunning views. Definitely do it 😀

Zeker doen 😀

Spent a week's holiday in Corvara in May 2023. Great base for several tours.
Valparola done from Corvara and then La Ville, the last kilometre is steeper though, at the top fine tarmac, just prepared for the Giro 2023 that passed a few days later. Well worth the effort.

Beautiful Passo Valparola starts on this side with four hairpin turns to climb out of La Villa, followed by wide road with gentle curves climbing irregularly through some villages in the valley of San Cassiano. You cross several times a summer dry mountain riverbed. From the bridge over the Sciaré River in the village with campsites of the same name it goes back via hairpin bends steeply uphill, first through pine forest followed by rocky landscape with beautiful views of the imposing Tofana massif.
Just before the top there is a mountain hut (food & drink) next to a beautiful green mountain lake with what further World War I fortress Tre Sassi where then a soldier in historic military costume on guard.
After the pass height you can briefly descend to the Passo Falzarego where you can go either way (Cortina / Caprile).

Not to be underestimated climb with fantastic views!

During my 2017 tour of the Dolomites for Giro di Kika, the weather was the big spoilsport. On day 1 the Stelvio was closed due to snow and hail and day 3 to Tolmezzo was no fun with untold amounts of water. Finally we were one of the 30 riders who finished the ride, for the 120 others it was neutralized and the riders were picked up with cars and busses.
So we could not cycle to San Cassiano and it seemed to become a day without bicycles. Once at the campsite, it got a little dry and as there was no snow or thunder in the air, we did the Valparola that afternoon.
The road surface is super and it was nice and quiet on the way.
The route goes through a wooded area and the views are just like they should be in the Dolomites: impressive.
Part of our team was going to do the Sella Ronda, I stuck to this climb and fortunately because they had a lot of rain the last 30 kilometers.
Due to the fog there was limited visibility here and there, but there was plenty of oxygen in the air so we could keep on going.
Once at the top you have the urge to continue to the next climb and still make a round trip but since the next day again the Pordoi etc was on the program we gave our legs a rest and descended back to San Cassiano.
A nice climb with fantastic views, something that can make you very happy as a climber.
