I found the Passo Rolle to be a bit of a nuisance. The view at the top is indeed beautiful. But jeez, this climb is crowded. I still have ringing ears from all the motorbikes, cars and buses that almost drove me off the road. The Italian is certainly not afraid to use his horn either.
The last third of the climb goes through a forest and that is quite beautiful. At the top, the views are magnificent. Drive up to just past the top for the best views. At the top, there are eateries and a fountain to fill your water bottles.
If you can avoid the crowds, this is a nice climb. Quite long with two tough sections separated by a break.
Ik vond de Passo Rolle maar een naar ding. Het uitzicht boven is inderdaad prachtig. Maar jeetje, wat is deze klim druk. Ik heb nog suizende oren van alle motoren, auto's en bussen die mij bijna van de weg gereden hebben. Het gebruik van de claxon schuwt de Italiaan ook zeker niet.
De laatste eenderde van de klim loopt door een bos en dat is best heel mooi. Bovenop heb je uitzichten die prachtig zijn. Rij ook even door tot net voorbij de top voor het mooiste uitzicht als je een heen en weertje doet. Op de top zijn eetgelegenheden en een fonteintje om de bidons te vullen.
Als je de drukte kunt vermijden is dit een leuke klim. Vrij lang met twee pittige stukjes gescheiden door een pauze.

From Predazzo you can first of all ride about 6 km, not too steep but still pedaling once in Bellamonte some rest in the legs and through the forest to Pannevechio. At the junction with the Valles keep right and then the enjoyment begins.
The quietness, the curves and the views, it all distracts from the climbing. It does not get really steep so more time to look around you. The last kilometers give you a view on the rough chalk wall and you know that once on the plateau you really enjoy the wide open view.
After the hotel a few more turns and then you are at the top of the ski area.
For me it was an outing with my wife and an extra climb that week, one I wouldn't have wanted to miss.
Vindt je de Passo Pordoi mooi en imposant, ga dan even met een omweg naar de Passo Rolle. Aan de poort van de Dolomieten ligt dit feestje.
Vanuit Predazzo kun je eerst een kilometer of 6 aan de bak, niet te steil maar toch even doortrappen eenmaal in Bellamonte wat rust in de benen en door het bos lekker verder naar Pannevechio. OP de kruising met de Valles rechts aanhouden en dan begint het genieten.
De rust, de bochten en de uitzichten, allemaal leidt het af van het klimmen. Echt steil wordt het niet dus meer tijd om om je heen te kijken. De laatste kilometers geven je een zicht op de ruwe krijtwand en je weet dat je eenmaal op het plateau echt geniet van een weidse blik.
Na het hotel nog een paar bochten en dan ben je boven in het skigebied.
Voor mijn was het een uitje met mijn vrouw en een extra klim die week, eentje die ik niet had willen missen.
