Today I did this climb in a circuit Bormio, Tirono, Livingo, Eira, Foscagno. Don't be mistaken about the heaviness of the climb. It has more height meters than the Stelvio. You have only more kilometres but there are also 8 almost flat. From Tirono you ride directly into the sun to the lake, it is not yet really steep but it was warm. At the lake it goes down a little and then up again so you can cool off. In the beginning there is a train riding along the road in a few villages on rails. So watch out that you do not get stuck in these rails. In the valley after that, it remains fairly flat. After that, it goes up constantly by 8%. You drive there in the morning in the shade of the trees. It is a through road, so it is wide and has good tarmac. The traffic was not too bad for a through road. It makes you wonder if it will ever end. In the section before Motta, there are a few bends in the road and it is really steeper than indicated here. (9%)
At the junction to Livigno, it goes downhill at first, but don't put on an extra jacket yet. The steepest part is still to come. It is steep there and after 30Km of climbing you will feel it. There are parts of 11% in it. At the top, there are border offices and a restaurant.

Cheers
