Regular ascent. Easy up to Malesco then steepens to reach the pass and face the descent to Finero-Cannobio.
Salita regolare.
Very easy and smooth ascent. After the Customs House, however, the road is in very poor condition and cars whizz by at high speeds, so overall I didn't particularly enjoy it.
Salita molto facile e regolare.
In late February on a sunny day meant it go really warm on the way up. At the top there was a lot of wind an finally these was snow to the last few km’s. Traffic was OK and I’d rather climb this than go the other way. If you are in the area it is good fun, I’d avoid the summer though as there isn’t much space fo the cars. I don’t have much. But in lat Feb we tdo you expect 😄
A climb that is anything but challenging but very long. The comparison with the cannobbina sees the centovalli as less beautiful both as a road, as views and also as an ascent. From Locarno there is a first section with a not bad tear, then it always remains on 3/4 %. In my case, having arrived in Re I continued on to Domodossola. The road is in good condition as is the traffic. I choose the cannobbina but it is not bad. Unfortunately the road has no protection from the sun and is very hot in the middle of August. plenty of drinking fountains to hydrate!
Nice contrast between the tiny villages of valle Onsernone/Centovalli, and the humongous sanctuary a few kilometers after the border (Re). Very uneven road, either always climbing, descending or turning. The many Centovalli rail arches are worthwhile, a bit Albul-ish, but without the alpine meadows. Saw one car accident, probably someone cutting a curve. Did not continue up to the passo dello Scopello as I was headed to Domodossola.
Some real climbing only at the beginning and end. Nice cycling in the wild Centovalli, which then opens up into the more domestic Vigezzo.
