A nicer alternative to get from Simpelveld to Baneheide as you miss the narrow (and quite bumpy) cycle path along the busy provincial road. The first part of the climb is the same: over a good cycle lane you cycle up from the centre of Simpelveld. After the viaduct, however, you turn right at the roundabout into a flat and dead-end road which later makes a right-angled turn to the left and then climbs nicely past houses and through the forest (later it becomes a cycle path). Eventually you end up next to the main road again (but on a wider cycle path) after which it soon becomes cycling out.
