We went to Tuchan especially for this climb. At the foot is a winery and the first 1.5 km you ride through the vineyards, which is very nice. Here, the climb is a bit capricious, steep parts are alternated with flatter parts and good road surface is alternated with less good parts. I saw this climb on dangerousroads.org and had a spare day on a house hunting trip in the area. So I decided to hire a bike and give it a go. Alas the forecast was for strong winds. I started in Rivesaltes and arrived at the bottom with 35 miles and more than 3000 feet in my legs but still felt strong and capable so went for it on the hill. The first part progressed well nd then I saw a hair pin coming up and RED on my wahoo. Switched to climb profile and the red didn't really let up. Stpped for some water and then attacked the climb. I got to within a few hundred meters of the top but asI approached the saddle the wind was becoming insane. Must've been 80 to 90kph. Decided to turn back and descended, slowly. Would def try it again in better weather!

An uphill climb that I've fallen in love with! But a difficult one!
At the start, vineyards, olive trees, heady cicadas, the scent of pine trees, and then as you go along the road gets worse and the gradients go mad'15, 17, 18, 20%
At one point the slopes at 10% seem flat...fortunately the view of the Corbières massif and the Pyrenees beyond is really worth the effort ...to be recommended to hardened climbers all the same and preferably with a gravel bike!

This climb is harder than the profile makes it look. Mainly because of the road surface.
In the beginning it alternates a lot between completely flat – sometimes even downhill – and very steep. Depending on your tires it might be hard to get a good grip on the steepest parts because of the poor road quality.
Further up the climb, the gradient becomes much more constant; to me it almost felt flat because of the steep sections that came before, even though it still averages 10%.
If I where to go again, I would definitely use wider, knobbier tires.

We went to Tuchan especially for this climb. At the foot is a winery and the first 1.5 km you ride through the vineyards, which is very nice. Here, the climb is a bit capricious, steep parts are alternated with flatter parts and good road surface is alternated with less good parts. After about 1,8 km, you pass Gite Saint Roch, where I also spent the night. From here there are more and more steep pieces, but it remains erratic. After about 3.5 km you get a fork, the good way is straight ahead. You can also turn left, but be warned, this part is very steep and in parts not asphalted. Later, I would see this road again. Where the road goes straight up the slope with bends and already has sections of 20 percent, this section is even steeper as I can visually estimate. After 4 km, you get a fork where you turn left, straight on is to chapelle de faste. From 4.5 km on, it is less erratic, but just steep, constantly around 11-12 percent. After 6 km, you have another fork. Here it does not matter much whether you go left or right. The right has a bit more bends and is possibly a bit shorter, but you end up on the same stretch again. I chose the road on the left and had only one bend, but a very steep one. After the bend, you get a view of the mast and windmills at the top. This works as a motivator, you are almost there. Once you get there, at least if you have the weather I had, you have an amazing view of the surroundings, where you can see the coast and the Canigou very well.
