Climbed this beast today (June 19). Died in the forest and enjoyed the last few kilometers after the restaurant. Big advantage of the current situation: on the summit they are working so cars and motorcycles cannot pass. In other words, for them it is a dead end climb that is closed below the top ... read more

I've never ridden it before, except on the Ven-TOP on the "Zwift" platform (19km at 8%); this day in 1h39min or 11.5km/h average speed...

Having recently seen the GCN videos, I have no idea what my likely time would be in "reality" I also noted that it would naturally be longer for me in terms of duration and difficulty, given the friction of the tyres on the asphalt, and the...wind! But based on the experiences of other PROS or former PROS, I think that this time on Zwift is pretty close to the real time.

I don't think I'll tick it just yet, until I've done it!

Mythical... What more can you say? Don't get carried away, find your rhythm, take it easy, don't expect any rest areas, there aren't any, apart from the water stop at Chalet Reynard. As for the rest, it's just splendid to go out and win this Ventoux!

Mythique...

Cycled up this mountain with a friend at the end of September last year. It was very windy, down in Bedoin it was 18 degrees, on top of the mountain very cold and foggy.... But didn't want to miss it. Victory over ourselves, never thought we could accomplish this! Trained on the Posbank near Arnhem, which of course is a joke. Made it to the top of Bald Mountain with sheer willpower!

Just wow!!! I don't know much about it, but I'm doing the bi cinglé.
The last climb was tricky :-)
Personally, it was more difficult via Malaucène than via Bédoin.
The view from the top is just incredible.
Lots of bikes and that's what keeps you going!
I'll be going back with my daughter.

Juste waow !!!

A superb Provençal ascent! Most of the ascent is through a peaceful forest as far as Chalet Reynard, then the open landscape offers superb panoramic views of the region. To the north, the hills of the Drôme, to the south the Vaucluse plain, the Dentelles de Montmirail... Magnificent. As well as offering splendid panoramic views, Mont Ventoux will also put your legs to the test. There's very little respite on the climb. The first few kilometres are fairly straightforward, giving you plenty of time to warm up. Then, as soon as you round the St Estève bend, the steep gradients begin, and will continue almost unabated until you reach the summit, apart from the few hundred metres before the Chalet Reynard.

Easier than the Malaucene route (IMHO) but awesome just the same. Also busier than the Malaucene route but helpful when needing a break and sitting in someone's wheel for a while 👍🏼😉

It's not the most beautiful. It's not the hardest. But it is unique. Fascinating. Mythical.
As Pierre, the leader of the Cinglés du Ventoux, who climb all three sides of the mountain in one day, so rightly said, "Ventoux is a magnet".
And it's true that you keep coming back. It's different every time you climb it.
More difficult than from Malaucène? Really, not at all sure.
At this time of year (October), from Bédoin, in the late afternoon, you reach the summit with the sun shining sideways, and that adds something special to this scenery, which is already so strange.
An anti-femicide campaign had chosen the roads of the Ventoux to raise awareness of this scourge. It was striking.

Il n’est pas le plus beau. Il n’est pas le plus dur. Mais, il est unique. Fascinant. Mythique.

Iconic! Can get busy with traffic, especially at the weekends and between mid morning till early afternoon. Best time to do the ride is early morning during the week. Also check the weather especially paying attention to the wind speed - which can be ferocious. see https://www.mountain-forecast.com/peaks/Mont-Ventoux/forecasts/1912

It's Disney World for cyclists, this famous mountain. It's all true. That awful climb through the forest, mentally trying to bring you to your knees. The relief of having reached the illustrious Chalet Reynaud. Then the equally gruelling final six kilometres through the iconic lunar landscape. In a word, it's impressive. Minor blemish: ridden in late July, the mountain is infested with cyclists from all walks of life, sometimes you almost cycle through traffic jams. More worrisome is all the car traffic that contains mostly supporters of aforementioned cyclists. Busier busier busiest, so be careful. But: yes. If you're a cyclist, you must have done it. I understand that now.

Did the climb via Bedoin as training for the Cingle de Mont Ventoux which I will do later this year. Started at 7am with a pace of 24 degrees. At the summit it was still 21 degrees. Us the climb well to do (was prepared for the worst with all the bean standing reviews😉 ). I the forest stung several times by mosquitoes. Last. Couple of kilometres pulling itself long because you keep thinking you're there within sight of the tower.

What a beast! The approach to Saint-Estève poses no problem for anyone, but it is after the hairpin bend that the misery begins. Endless stumbling, pushing, grinding and suffering. Hope that damn Chalet Renard gets there pretty damn soon....
From the chalet, you get a respite. The averages are lower here, but you can still expect bouncers up to 11% here. Overall, this stretch is not too bad, wind aside....
You can see the summit in the distance, yet it plays hide-and-seek from time to time from three kilometres from the end. The distinctive tower at the summit sometimes seems to stay endlessly small, without ever seeming to come closer. Yet, suddenly it is right in front of you.
Tom Simpson's memorial stone marks the last kilometre of this beastly climb. From here you must adjourn, the reward at the end is oh so beautiful!

Once in a lifetime; you really must have done it once. I amateur, 52 years old, only been cycling for a year, managed to get to the top just fine. Didn't ride on time, but on power (pedals) and heart rate. Then doable. Did take 2.45 hours on my converted Gazelle S2 sports bike (tripple fitted and carbon wheels). Now a year later, after training and a new bike (Canondale Supersix Di2 Ultegra) it would be much easier for me. In other words, even with not t best equipment you can get to the top, but keep t safe (monitor heart rate) and ride down slowly (there are fools at 70 km/h). I only just kept it to 45-50 with my rim brakes....

Very cool, first part easy, through the forest mentally and physically very tough, especially the first kilometres very steep. Also no hairpins where you can take a rest, steep all the time. Piece to and from Chatel Reynard a bit less steep, but soon after that know hard percentages and the last few kilometres very tough. First time for me as a 14-year-old with now 1 year of cycling experience. Beautiful up there though and a great challenge for any cyclist

I climbed it during the Gran Fondo Montventoux 2023 cyclosportive after 100kms, the col de la madeleine, col de la Gabelle, rocher du Cire and col des abeilles in my legs. The climb is done in 3 stages, the second part of which in the forest is absolutely hard where you're constantly grappling with gradients of 8.5-9% minimum for 9km. The landscape is lunar once you pass the forest. It's a must-do cycling moment for all cycling and climbing enthusiasts.

I've ridden this a few times and completed the Cinglés du Mont Ventoux - all three tarmac climbs in under 9hrs.

Probably my favourite climb, close to Timmelsjoch in Austria (which has great restaurant at crossing summit).

Check wind speed. A slight breeze at the base might mean unrideable past the tree line. I've watched lightning strike and rain being blown up the road on a summer morning, near the summit.

Pacing, like all big climbs, is important because the forest section can turn into an oven. I've experienced 36°C when I thought it'd be nearer 25°C when starting off. Flies - yep, any slower than ~20kmh and they'll be all over you in the forest. Mosquito repellent helps, as does P20, but wear a cap under your helmet. It will stop the sweat dripping into your eyes and keep the flies from eating your scalp!

Often great meat and sweets vendors up at summit, and small tourist shop, so you can buy drinks and snacks. Very busy between 10am - sunset.

Unbelievably clueless Americans often up there, who wander into the paths of cyclists on final few metres without looking, and driven up there in motor homes. More than once I've been asked 'wa on earth y'all want to bi-cycle up here?' from a wheezing car-bound US citizen!

Probably in my top 5 climbs. The view at sunset is mind-blowing. The mountain casts a sundial-like shadow for over ~50km.

Climbed this morning 28/05 for the first time. The first 4/5 km are very easy. Then once in the forest the serious stuff starts. 9/10 % of deniv over several km. The coolness of the trees and the cyclists in front keep morale up . Everyone says hello. C'est bon enfant. Everyone is in a good mood once the Reynard chalet (water point indicated) possibility of eating. Sale of jerseys, no more trees. Panic on board. Fortunately the weather was overcast and cool without too much wind. Once at the top, we were brave enough to take photos with the Ventoux sign, as there were a lot of people trying to immortalise the climb. Magnificent scenery, no surprises there. Be careful on the way down. I'm heading for Malaucène. Between the cars that go up and down. The average speed of the descent barely raises the overall average. Snif . But what does it matter in the end. Lots of cyclists. A few cars (if it hadn't been for the Peugeot RCZ gathering, it would have been more pleasant) but they respected the safety distances. Thanks to them. To be repeated

Panique a bord. Merci a eux . A refaire

First major pass for me; I absolutely had to do it before my 50th birthday (in 2 months!).
Bike hired in Malaucène (34x30) - I warmed up on the tourist route to Bédoin before starting the ascent of the Géant de Provence.
The climb seemed easier than I expected and, in all modesty, I think I managed it well, as it took me less than 2 hours. I'd been preparing for 8 weeks in the hills of my native Lorraine, swallowing as many bumps as possible and lengthening my outings over the weeks, and it paid off.
I was able to enjoy the magnificent panorama with complete peace of mind despite thick fog at the summit (19 May 2023, 8°C at the top).
I also enjoyed myself on the descent, while remaining cautious, given confidence by the power and progressive disc braking of the Wielier triestina I'd hired.
This first experience of an HC pass made me want to repeat the experience on other legendary passes!

I climbed the Mont Ventoux today 11/05/2023 under a beautiful sun and with a lot of wind the summit was covered by clouds.
I start this mythical climb from Bédoin. The first 5 km are easy and fast.
Then when you enter the forest, it is much harder and it is a mental game. The beginning of the forest is very difficult but the closer you get to the chalet reinard the more the slope softens.
Finally, the last 6 km are endless (especially the last one) and the sastifaction is great at the top. Beware of the wind in the last few kilometres.
This pass should be on your list of passes to do.

Climbed for the second time. Arrived here with good morale. Finishing had already succeeded once so the aim now was to get to the top a bit faster. In contrast to Monday 1 May, this time the weather was fine and we left on time.

Approach is good to do. From st. Esteve onwards, the demolition work begins. Kilometres around the 9%. From Chalet Reynard the worst is over. The last kilometre does chop it up, but when you smell the finish, no one will bother you.

This time a minute faster than before and definitely satisfied with that.

Key tips:
-it's as tough as you make it. Dose and come with some kilometres in your legs.
(Didn't cycle much myself, but did run a marathon and so in a different way, trained fine).

-Respect the weather. There is no bad weather, only bad clothing. Check weather forecast in valley and at summit. Adjust time of departure to conditions and if necessary, bring clothes for the descent. Otherwise, you will be cheated.

For me, Bedoin is the side with the special value from history, but secretly I find Malaucene tougher and a tad nicer: quiet, greener and more varied.

Ten tweede male beklommen.

Done once and a half, yesterday 17/10 and 16/10, the day after the Raid des Alpilles (3rd in Handisport behind a 2020 Paralympic champion and overall winner of the Cyclo Tour in the Handisport category).

On Monday I met 8 cyclists in 21 km, strong headwind and not very hot with the wind at the top, you feel alone in the middle of nowhere, the descent to Malaucène was wet in places, in short dangerous. I took advantage of this to do the Mont Serein station, it's 2 km longer there and back, but it's nice before diving into the valley. Then back to Mazan where I was staying via the Madelaine, a long and uneven false flat.

Tuesday I landed in Bedoin before returning to Clermont-Ferrand, so I was climbed again to Chalet Reynard, this time, little wind and a few cyclists of a fairly homogeneous level, I was able to climb at about my 2022 level, that is to say good but not more;I found a fairly old cyclist, but one who climbed well, we did 7 km together, from the hillclimb hut to the car park, then I returned solo with a puncture on the descent, the road has suffered since the 2021 Tour.

Besides the roads in the Vaucluse are in a bad state because they are full of holes and are blocked up even worse than where I live, where the DDE uses cement, there it's sand, in short, a puncture if you put the wheel in. It's a shame.

We'll go and do it again in better shape and without the puncture.

climbed for the first time on 1/10, what an experience!
great camaraderie between cyclists up to the summit, the part in the well sheltered forest does not prepare for the cold and wind from the chalet Reynard; take windbreakers/buff/gloves with you for this part and especially the descent.
Descend to Sault and then do the gorges de la Nesque, it's really splendid!

First time on the ventoux, a must do if you are around.. I fucked up the fooding so I arrived after the forest with not too much energy left. But very happy with the result (my goal was less than 2 hour).
I cannot wait to go back

The first 5 kilometres are doable, but then it starts getting tough for the next 10 kilometres in the forest. The gradient is consistently 9/10/11 per cent and it was hot. Once out of the forest you get to chalet Reynard and there it was blowing hard, foggy and chilly. These last 6 kilometres also made this ride tough but once you got to the top you had already forgotten the tough ride and it gave a great feeling. And about my time I was satisfied despite the strong wind and cold (1 hour 57 min).

Cycled the Ventoux now for the second year in a row and this year, unlike last year, it was by no means windless. At 2/3rds of the forest you could feel some wind at times, but after Chateau Reynard there was really strong wind, which made it tough! Fortunately, I had managed to calm myself down reasonably well in the forest and still had enough left to gas from Chateau Reynard onwards. Time improved by 20 min, but unfortunately just failed to beat Josse Wester's time of 1:43 from the tour de tietema challenge in 2021. On to next year and then set another challenging target: 1:35!

One of the first serious climbs I did. The first 6 kilometres were a steady income, the 10 kilometres in the forest were a struggle, and luckily I still had some time left to complete the last kilometres from Chalet Renard to the top without any struggle.

This year I rode it 3 days after the ascent from Malaucène and I found the latter a bit harder because of the longer stretches with double figures. I had to go deeper, despite the fact that I did it in better weather conditions (with some clouds). This time I started in Bedoin in the afternoon and that was rather warm for me personally, but it went surprisingly well, you can pacify this side just a bit better and climb at a constant wattage. In the end, all 3 sides are recommended, Sault a nice Ventoux-light variant, Bedoin the most iconic of course and Malaucène the most surprising both in terms of views and percentages. If you can only do one, then Bedoin, because you must have cycled through that lunar landscape once and died a little in the woods.

A childhood dream come true. I actually found the false flat surprisingly steep in places, so in the forest I immediately switched to the smallest gear and took all the time in the world (without stopping though). Because of that decision, I actually found the forest not so bad, it is (very) hard that is undeniable, but the fairly constant percentages allow you to find a perfect rhythm. After Chalet Reynard it is less steep and the top is almost always in sight, so giving up was just not an option, I was lucky there was no wind. If you want to go up the Ventoux, just be sure you can keep up the steep percentages, but take it from me: if I made it, so can you ;)

The mythical Ventoux. I had done the climb via Sault and Malaucene before. I loved both.
Bedoin is clearly the most difficult side, but also the least beautiful/pleasant. In the forest, you see trees, lots of trees. And flies, lots of flies. Once passed Chalet Renard, you can enjoy the surroundings. Because that is the trump card of Ventoux, the fantastic view. There is also a special atmosphere on the climb that I have never experienced before. A kind of solidarity. And at the top, all the pain is immediately gone... And as always, take the time for a beer in the cafe just below the summit. Enjoy!

Tjah.
Genieten!!

From Bédoin, with a temperature of 25 degrees, Nice climb but you need a good preparation, equipped with a 42 in the front and 11x46 in the back (Gravel) I took 2 hours, eat well and especially hydrate, not much wind and 16 degrees at the top.
To do at least once in your life. It was my second climb.

Definitely a must. The 10 kilometres into the forest are tough, but the iconic view once you enter the lunar landscape is well worth it.

Rise on 9 July 2022:

Having done the climb from Sault 2 months before, it's absolutely nothing like it. The first 5 km from Bédoin to St Esteve are flat and uphill, you have a great view of the antenna on the left, I advise you not to put too much on at this point because the rest ... From St Estève to the Chalet Reynard, it doesn't stop for 9 kilometres, the passages close to or above 10% follow one another in this forest. I ate and drank well in this section, that's important. Finally, from the Chalet Reynard to the summit, the slope softens on the first two ramps to reconnect on the last 3 km at 9%. A magnificent climb where you can feel all the history of cycling, what a joy to arrive at the antenna. However, I would advise cyclists who are not physically and mentally prepared not to venture up it, as the slopes can be downright dangerous.

It is highly recommended but still a huge challenge. Especially the forest with its gradients and the last part to the top.

On Sunday 22 May 2022, I climbed the Ventoux for the first time. Started from the residence in Malaucène via the col de Madeleine (nice warm-up, it is not the real Madeleine, but this little hill is also called that) to Bédoin. From there up. Warm weather, 33 degrees. In the beginning it goes well, but after about 5 kilometres into the forest. Then it is raking against the 10 percent. The compact 50/34 front and 29/13 rear was just enough. I would have preferred a lighter sprocket, but Campagnolo has a 29, which is the largest rear sprocket I could have fitted. So I started too fast and then you come up against yourself. Trying to breathe calmly so that acidification does not set in. Stop for a few minutes to recover and eat. It is Sunday, lots of motorbikes and cars on the road. That is disturbing, but otherwise a great experience. Relaxation through exertion!
Out of the forest on the bare part, filled the water bottle at the fountain and further on, took a selfie at the monument of Tom Simpson. Little wind and about 20 degrees at the top. We reach the top in 2 hours 20 minutes, which is about the average climbing time. Descending to Malaucène is a lot of squeezing of the brakes because of the hairpin bends. All in all, a nice round trip to start with.
The second day's ride is 100 km to Avignon. A beautiful old city with city walls, palace of the Pope and the famous bridge.
The third day a 110 km route around the Ventoux (Malaucène, Bedoin, Sault, Malaucène) through the Gorges de la Nesque (a 400 m deep gorge in the direction of Sault, highly recommended).
The fourth and last day up the Ventoux from Malaucène. Below 24 degrees, on the summit 7 degrees. Bring a jacket and arm pieces! Just as hard as from Bédoin, but the lower temperature makes it easier. Also much quieter because of the weekday, certainly as beautiful. Not far from the top, the white tower suddenly appears and you realise that it is not far to go. That gives morale for the last part. Down to Bédoin, a lovely, smooth descent. Via the Madeleine hill back to Malaucène.
Four wonderful cycling days in the beautiful Provence!

The best thing to do is to climb all three slopes, starting with Sault, then Malaucene and ending with Bédouin. Then it is necessary to make the turn of Ventoux which is not devoid of charms.

Climbed 9 times so far via the various sides. Two times a separate ascent. 1 x cinglé ride. 2 x the Cannibale of Sporta. In June next a tenth and eleventh time in the context of a third Cannibale. Already said a few times: this was the last time.... and yet I come back every time. Top climb, but there is more, nicer and especially quieter climbing around, especially north of the giant. I actually don't like those crowded climbs. Therefore 4 Stars.

Daarom 4 Sterren.

Pure legend. I did the brevet with my mate, climbing all the three ascents (Bedoin, Malaucene, Sault) the same day, in July 2020: it's very hard but worth the enourmous effort (especially for the hot weather!). I enjoyed also the descents very much. No wind that day, but I think it is an exception

Reccomended for every cyclist (even just one climb ;-)

The Ventoux on a 26 is a dragon. I remember a signpost to Flassan, little Les Beaux, a merry-go-round in Ste. Colombe; uninhibited children spinning around in endless pursuit, but after the bend there was only the dark tube, a sewer full of flies and sweat, the hard house of my heartbeat, upstream with only one conscious thought, fixed on the counter: stay above ten, Thijs.
Can you get off a bike in a coma? I think so. At the pavillon de Roland, eight and a half kilometres after Bédoin, I found myself standing next to it, without my will having given the order. With hands of a ton I chased away insects around my head. My ears were ringing. I closed my eyes to keep them from rolling out of their sockets like pinballs. My consciousness had shrunk to nine letters: Never Again. But after five minutes I was so much human again that I got back on.
Once at the top you go through what we all go through after such an exploit: the evaporation of the suffering, the sweet remnants of filtered pain, the metamorphosis of the intentions. Where on the way up you still swore to yourself never to do this again, now the granite resolve of repeating it, but better, creeps up on you.

Iconic climb that is a must do. We did the Bedoin ascent on day one and the Sault ascent on day two. Bedion is by far the harder of the two climbs with the wooded area particularly hard going. Certainly nice to have ridden once, up rode from Bedoin end of September so fortunately not overly hot in the forest, top attracted the wind and it was still quite raking, what I said, nice to have ridden but in terms of charm and natural beauty I prefer other cols

Heavy climb where it never goes below 8% for the first 14km. When I climbed it in the beginning of September, there was no heavy wind in the last 6 km, but there was a heavy downpour. Because of this, I had a temperature difference of 21 degrees between up and down, so definitely pay attention to this! The track is a typical French departmental road that is well maintained and offers enough space for traffic to pass safely.

Still tricky. Already climbed a lot. It's a matter of dosing yourself in order to have enough reserve to tackle the last 6 km. There the wind can be a real spoilsport.
Tip: start very early in the morning, that way you can encounter the flocks of sheep that walk up along the flanks.

Blijft lastig.

The first part from Bedoin goes through the fields and fortunately I have tail wind. I expect the wind at the top to be against me. The 9 "red" kilometers through the forest are hard and to my feeling harder than when you climb via Malaucene because there are high and low percentages of climb. I deliberately cycled late in the afternoon because of the heat (27 degrees). In the forest it is still pretty warm then and I believe it is stifling hot during the day. But the part through the forest is very nice with many picnic places along the route. At Chalet Reynard the road turns to the left and you enter the famous moon landscape. Here it is much cooler and the light breeze is now alternately against as you ride towards the ridge and with you as you ride along the ridge to the edge. There were a lot of cars and motorcycles and in the forest the gas fumes linger. Probably it was busy because it was a beautiful evening with little wind, much more than if you drive through Malaucene.

Early this week I rode up the mountain in a round trip of 130Km. The climb started after 45 Km. It was a very warm day (35 degrees) and i had to get used to it. In the forest it was very warm, no wind and here and there a few flies. Here and there overtaken by electric bikes. Don't let someone who rides faster make you crazy, just keep to your own pace. At the open part of the road there is finally some wind to cool down. Last part despite the wind not too bad. And don't forget to smile to all the photographers just before the top. The sign at the top is almost impossible to read because of the stickers. Because of the 8Km constant 9 to 10% in the forest I found this the hardest part.

Great climb from Bédoin. I rented a Trek Emonda road bike for €60 in La Route du Ventoux. Service is not great or friendly (you also have to pay in advance + €400 caution), but bike was good (except for faulty shifter for the front gears). Without additional costs they added a 32 cassette which was very useful. Immediately from the bike shop you can start the climb and you'll meet a lot of fellow bikers of all levels which make this ascent pleasant and entertaining. Eating and drinking on the top is possible. I descended to Malaucène and biked then 12 km back to Bédoin. I ate a delicious pasta salad in Le Flandrien next to the bike shop. Roads are in very good condition. Along the climb there are photographers from photoventoux.com and sport-photo.fr where you can search your photos the next day and order them as a souvenir (without watermark). I recommend the Bédoin side as it's the most popular side of the mountain, in the descent to Malaucène I saw few riders, as well as on the easier Sault side (where I drove by car). This was a great biking memory and surprisingly doable. Compared to Stelvio from Bormio (which has the same length and slightly easier average percentage), I suffered way less.

The best climb I have done so far! The part through the forest is the toughest, when you get to chalet Reynard you know that there is a less steep part waiting for you and those last few kilometers will do in this beautiful environment! Fine that during the ride you have almost continuous visibility of the top (the tower). Really a must!

Tough climb in the heat, and more cyclists than I could count! Wasn't even a special event... just a random day.

Really enjoyable sharing the experience with others, and while people talk about the tough gradients at the start, I found the last 6km more difficult due to how open it is and the white rocks that reflect the heat.

Mont Ventoux is where it all started for me (in 2018). This is where I discovered the passion for cycling and more specifically climbing. What started as a silly idea eventually became a passion, maybe even addiction.
From Bedoin, the climb is legendary. Without any climbing experience (of course) I had to work hard and suffered a lot during the last two kilometers. Nevertheless I managed to finish the whole climb under 2 hours, well above expectations.

In 2018, I bought my racing bike with the ultimate goal of one day climbing the Ventoux. This Wednesday, July 26, I realized my dream by climbing this myth via Bédoin. It took me about 2 hours and 20 minutes from kilometre zero in Bedoin, but I never felt like I was in trouble. The long part in the forest is certainly excessively long. After passing the Tom Simpson monument and arriving in the last few hundred meters, the emotion is great because climbing this monster is not improvised, it is a preparation of many months or years. The only drawback is that this myth is a little too much victim of its reputation. The villages of Bédoin and Malaucène are a bit of a Mecca for cycling, and above all, I find that there are too many cars at the top. I had to ride the last 100 meters between several stopped cars that couldn't find a parking space. When will there be a paid ascent by car for day-trippers? In some countries like Austria or Switzerland, you have to pay to drive over passes or mountains, it should certainly be done for the Ventoux

On 26/07/2021 I did the climb from Bedoin as my first ascent of the 'Cingle'-challenge.
Early departure from Beaumes-de-Venise (about 17km) as a warming up and then had to wait a bit until the "La route du Ventoux"- bike shop was open to get my first stamp, and finally left at 7:43.
The climb itself was doable, just don't force it. Steep climb percentage but steady ...

I didn't eat or drink enough during the ascent, and during the descent to Malaucene.

Last week the day before the TdF I did this climb from Bedoin. After a warm-up via the Madeleine from Malaucene and a terrace in Bedoin, I started enthusiastically on the first false flat section. After that in the forest a hard part which goes on until Chalet Reynard. After this, there was more wind, but I was able to cycle to the top. The last few metres the wind bothered us more. In the descent, watch out for wind gusts.

Really recommendable to cycle up from several sides!

What an unprecedented day. I rode up the Ventoux on a bright day in September. A clear blue sky that contrasted sharply with the white mountain. Started in Bedoin, through the forest, at Chalet Reynard some good food and on to the top.
The mountain is magical. Radiantly white and as bald as my own skull. Along the way, I talked to many people about this magnificent climb. Everyone was impressed by the view of this enchanting mountain in the bright sunlight of the French autumn.
I can recommend everyone to do this climb. And make it yourself not too difficult. Do not go through the forest but take the routes through Sault and Malaucene because they are much more beautiful and impressive. And do not forget to take the Gorge de la Nesque.

The first kilometers you can use to warm up, it seems almost impossible to walk up when you climb between the vineyards (don't forget to look to the right for the view and to the left to see what's ahead). but appearances can be deceptive. However, only when you take the left turn at Saint Estève the real climb starts through the "forest" feared by many. The longer straights can be mentally tough, but try as much as possible to climb from bend to bend and KM pole to KM pole, this makes the climb smaller. After Chalet Reynard the road flattens out a bit but the last km is steep as ever (11%). Don't forget to smile for the photographers.
In summer, it can be scorching hot down here and very cold up there, so always take a windbreaker for the descent.
The big question remains, which side is harder , Bédoin or Malaucène?

The nice run. The fight with yourself in the forest until Chalet Reynard. Then the battle against the wind on the bare mountain. And then the heavy last kilometer with that ooooh soooo steep part at the end. In short, a climb to savour. My reward at the top was great. Never seen such a beautiful blue sky. Heavenly!

Ah the Mont-Ventoux ! how many cyclists dream of climbing it, I did it by Bédoin and Malaucène in summer 2015 and I can assure you that its reputation of myth is not usurped.
You can see its famous lunar summit which dominates the Vaucluse for several dozen kilometers around, it bears its name of "Giant of Provence".
In spite of my habit of riding the roads of the biggest passes of the Alps (Galibier, Madeleine, Glandon, Croix de Fer and even Alpe d'Huez) I was impressed, never have I seen such a concentration of cyclists on the same climb, especially on the side of Bédoin.
A lot of different nationalities, especially Dutch and Belgian, but also a lot of British (for Tom Simpson) and Italians, the French not being in the majority by far.
The Ventoux is not just a summit devoid of any vegetation as is too often seen in the media, it is a magnificent ascent that is mostly done in a beautiful forest with species that vary along the way, equipped with many picnic areas.
Road condition: Nickel
Start of the ascent in the heart of Bédoin "from where you can already see the summit" for a little more than 6 km rather quiet with crossing the hamlets of Ste-Colombe then Bruns, in a bend at the exit of St Estève we enter the forest and the slope steepens sharply to no longer descend; The slope steepens brutally and does not go below 9 % until the Chalet Reynard (8 to 9 km) "many flies also at the limit of the bearable"
It will be necessary to manage this portion made of long straight lines in succession without real lace but which offers nevertheless 2 to 3 portions which allow to blow a little.
From the Reynard chalet, we arrive in the desert part of the pass for the last 6 km, the landscape is uncovered until the horizon line, the effort becomes less difficult during 4 km except if the wind blows strongly as it was the case the day I climbed it;I climbed it, it climbs again at 9 % for the last 2, in this final it is often the morale that is essential because you can see the summit very close but also the road that winds on this rocky peak and all the bikes that precede you.
It would be a pity to have made all these efforts and to put your foot down so close to the goal.
The arrival is grandiose, magnificent point of view with 360° on Vaucluse and the neighbouring departments, small food store and memories, merchant of sausages, cakes, on the other hand to fill up with water it is the bottles with the trade.
Some days it will be necessary to be very patient to make the photograph, because it is really the big crowd except Saturdays days of chassé-croisé
Good luck, have a good climb and be careful.
Please as a cyclist respect nature, during my ascent I saw too many packages of various energy products on the roadside, even if this is due to a minority, on the Ventoux it is a lot given the huge attendance.

Twice I climbed the Mont Ventoux from this side. And both times it was a pleasure. Start slowly until Saint-Estève, where you turn into the forest. Directly 10%. Enjoy, at your own pace in the forest, and then at Chalet Reynard start the last part: winding like a snake to the top. Blessed!!!!!

Zalig!!!!!

What a beast!
Ventoux from Bedoin with the col de la madeleine (very nice!) as warming up.
Arrived at the top of the Ventoux, broken. I descended in the direction of Malaucene, but stopped at Chalet Liotard. I found it too dangerous because I was too tired.
Next time prepare better and do more altimeters.

This climb needs no explanation: simply stunning and pure cycling history. The part through the moon landscape is unforgettable. It's great!

The climb from Bedoin is the most popular of the three climbs of the Mont Ventoux. According to many cyclists also the toughest, but opinions are divided. According to the Club des Cinglés du Mont Ventoux, this is the most difficult climb of the three. The climb from Malaucène has a very different profile and it is just what you like. The climb from Sault is, until Chalet Reynard, where it meets the climb from Bedoin, the least difficult.

Ridden on Wednesday, April 25, '18. Sunny day with a maximum of 27C and left Vaison-la-Romaine at 9:15. The Ventoux via Malaucene was still closed, so I continued via the Col de Madeleine to Bedoin and went up there.

First six kilometers are nice to warm up. I did take it easy to have some surplus for the next part. After 6 km the road indeed winds up like a meandering river. With my compact bike I had the feeling that I was missing a little bit of resistance. That is why I had to work hard on the pedals instead of cycling with flexibility. Fortunately you are never alone here and provided you keep up the good pace, you can easily move from wheel to wheel. Use the relatively flat part at Chalet Reynard to refuel. After the Chalet, the gradient decreases a bit until the last kilometer. This one was intense, but doable by the grace of reaching the top quickly. Luckily this day very clear and so good views on the summit. Luckily no wind this day and then enjoyed the descent.

Because of my sense of honor, the nice weather, the beautiful view and the reward of a nice descent, this climb is worth it. The views on the way don't help either. The flies on the way don't help either, and staring down at the handlebar stem for miles on end is no fun either. Anyway, it is the Ventoux.

Each climb of the Ventoux is a climb in itself. After 27 times you still discover new views and experience time after time the beauty of this killer of a mountain. My first x was in 2013 after three days followed by my first Cinglé. In 2014 my second Cinglé and first night climb; which is really fantastic I must say. After 5 climbs in 2016, stranded due to storm and darkness in 2018 I finally climbed 6 times in 1 day.
Every side has its charm, difficult or easy only shows afterwards. The weather and conditions determine your success, it starts with mindset and preparation. I hope to be able to ride up many more times and always enjoy all the other "fighters" and the mountain itself.

Coincidentally there was almost no wind at the top, and the weather and thus the view was very nice. Stupidly, I wanted to get down quickly, so I spent too little time at the top. Perhaps because they are currently working on the road. The sign had been stolen. I am climbing for the 1st time. I did cycle in Limburg. I took it easy. Triple ridden. Tip: you can check the weather at the top on several websites.

Iconic climb of course and not to be underestimated. Started slowly, like I had heard before, and that worked. Because the infamous forest is heavy and lasts forever, small gear and pedaling. From the moment the moon landscape comes in sight, it goes a lot better, especially mentally. The wind there was welcome after the heat in the forest. Once at the top, the euphoria takes over from the suffering. So after the descent towards Sault and a plate of pasta with a Hoegaarden, the pain was forgotten and we did it again. The climb from Sault cannot be compared with the one from Bedoin, here you can really enjoy yourself along the way. We did the climb in mid-June when the borders were open again and after our 2nd climb we were even alone on the summit, I don't think we met 10 cyclists on our 2nd climb, it's great to experience the Ventoux like this. The works on top of the summit also help of course, because there is no through traffic on the mountain.

This year the Bald Mountain is back on the program. The hell of Provence, always plowing through the woods. The last few years I discovered 1 thing. I set the alarm clock in the holidays once at half past five for the climb. Few cyclists, no blistering heat, no flies in the forest and masses of people at the top. The sun rises slowly while you continue stroke by stroke as a meditation. At the top you stand with Ventoux lovers and the descent is the real reward with little traffic.

Highly recommended.
It's a lot more comfortable to ride with 30 teeth in the front and a cassette with 30 or even 32 teeth at the back. Last year I was amazed by the difference between riding uphill with a 30 instead of a 34 a few days before. My average speed with 30 teeth was even higher (11 km/h instead of 10.8 km/h) which was not a goal in itself.
I think that 'compact' gears with 50/34 teeth in the front are still too heavy to maintain a correct minimum number of pedal strokes per minute because this climb is just as long.
Going below 50 pedal strokes per minute is not exactly ok for the knees either, especially if we have to keep it up for minutes.
A Mtb usually has a smaller chainring at the front, smaller than 30 teeth, but the total weight is often a lot heavier than a racing bike.

Climbed this beast today (June 19).
Died in the forest and enjoyed the last few kilometers after the restaurant.
Big advantage of the current situation: on the summit they are working so cars and motorcycles cannot pass. In other words, for them it is a dead end climb that is closed below the top and thus has become unattractive.
Hopefully this work lasts another 25 years because if you are on this climb but 3 cars's encounter is pure enjoyment.
Cyclists can just pass and from both sides to reach the top.
So do it quickly!

Dus snel doen!!

The Ventoux is a climb that everyone must have done. The unique Provencal landscape together with the tough climb make this an unforgettable climb. My recommendation is to do this climb outside the holiday weeks (July and August) when it is a lot quieter, and there are fewer flies in the forest want to hitchhike.

Delightful mountain that always fascinates me! Every time different weather conditions, you can expect everything there, it can turn around just like that. I think I have cycled it about 40 times. The mountain does not let me go, sucks me in I always like to go back! It is that top reach that does it, soooo beautiful top and still such a wonderful feeling to reach that top.

Heerlijke berg, die me steeds boeit ! I've climbed the Ventoux 28 times already of which 3 times a triple (3 sides in 1 day) for my 55th, 60th and 65th birthday! I will be back in June to celebrate my 67th birthday. It's hard to admit that I need more and more time for it, not much to do. It's a question of knowing yourself and finding the right pace!

This summer I climbed the Mont Ventoux for the first time, both ways. Very nice climb, where suffering can be combined with enjoying the view. The start is quite calm, but very true, but fortunately it cools down from about 1000 meters and you have little trouble with the heat. On top of the summit it is nice and cool and for the descent it is advisable to wear extra clothes. The descent is also a very nice one, with some nice bends, but sometimes annoying cars that drive in the way.

On 7 September 2018, I climbed Mont Ventoux from the three famous villages. All this in the context of Ventoux3, raising funds for the Brain Tumor Fund. Departure at 6.00 am in the dark from Bedoin together with 182 other cyclists. At the top fog, 8 degrees and strong wind. Descend to Malaucène and then climb from Malaucène. More difficult than Bedoin. Three kilometers 11-12%. Then incredibly long descent to Sault. And then from Sault up. Nine hours on the bike. Heavy, but for a good cause!

Last year I climbed and conquered the Ventoux on a rental bike from Bedoin, untrained (cycling-wise, I do other sports). No world time, but still.
This year I cycled a lot in preparation of a big gravelride this fall in the Ardennes. That's why I took the bike with me on vacation. Necessary mountain work in Asturias in Spain. On the way back to France I decided to climb the Col de Portet. This was the last of the 3 cols climbed by the Tour riders during the famous 65 km (formula 1?). Started from Saint-Lary-Soulan. Despite all the training and a real mountain gear (36x30) I had to capitulate after 7 km. At that point I had climbed 4 km with an average gradient of 10%, and another 10 km with the same recipe ahead of me. I would like to ask you one question: 1) the Col de Portet is a must in the reviews and analyses on this forum 2) how do you tackle this kind of mega climb? If you are not a flyweight? What demands does it make on your bike (I rode a cyclo cross for example, with a relatively low seat position compared to the handlebars)? What is the impact of the height? Thanks in advance!
Ps and the Ventoux remains of course a fantastic climb!

Nodig bergwerk verzet in Asturie in Spanje.

Did this climb on 09/07/2018.
This col remains my favourite col. I am 16 and done the ventoux 11 times in my life. I cycle together with my father. He already did the ventoux 37 times.
The day before the ventoux, I had a lot of rest because I wanted to climb it in time, according to annual tradition.
The week before in the Alps and the second week in Provence. This day the most important col of the year; the Ventoux via Bédoin. Even col with a good road surface and good difficulty (difficult col, but not too steep).
I set the alarm at 7:30 so that we could leave on time and would not have to climb in the heat.
From Le Barroux we drove calmly to the start of the Ventoux. At the foot of the climb we had a quick pee, set the computer to 0 and then started the climb; the first km's are not that steep, but because we wanted to have a good time, we had to ride a good pace; my dad was riding in the lead to help me. Halfway through the forest; at 13 km from the top, we rode away from my dad.
Now it was up to me to ride a good pace, but not too fast so I could keep up to the top. On this site I saw that 15 km/hr was just under 1 hour 24 minutes. Last year I reached the top in 1 hour 27 minutes 15 seconds, so this would be a good time for me now. Just before chalet reynard I had an average of 14,9. I knew this was about what I needed. The first less steep part together with the forest (where it is steeper) came out to about the average percentage.
Around chalet reynard and the first kms after, I was able to increase the pace to 15,2 because it is less steep there. With this average I went into the last km. (I already knew from the previous times that it was still one and a half km from the last kilometer pole, so I knew I could loose some time here).
Got there in 1 hour 23 minutes and 5 seconds with an avs of 15,1; very satisfied. My father came up in 1 hour 30 min and 30 seconds; he was also satisfied with his time and the feeling.
My dad drank out half a bidon, I drank out 4 bidons completely.
My mom and my sister followed us with the car to give us fresh water. My father told them to follow me and to leave him behind; result: 4 bidons, 2 apricots and 3 grape sugars consumed. My father said afterwards that this wasn't necessary on 1 col, only on a long trip with several cols. I was afraid of getting a (hungry) knock, so I ate a bit too much. At an effort of one and a half hour this is not necessary.
So another area where I can improve next year; preparation and weather conditions were very good. It was warm, but what do you want in the summer and there was little wind.
This year already 73000 altimeters; last year 106000 in total.
Nicest 2 cycling weeks of the year passed again; at the moment in the car on the way home.....
On to the Vosges at the end of August and in the meantime some hilly rides to vary the boring West-Flanders.
Ultimate goal is to go 3 min 20 sec faster and reach a time under the hour 20 min (1 hour 19 min 45 sec)

On 29-6-18 I cycled from Bédoin to the top. I left Mazan at 8.30 am for 8 km of cycling to Bédoin. The first 6 km I cycled calmly to avoid wasting energy. From the forest the real work starts. It was sunny, but it didn't feel stuffy in the forest. No flies at all. I am glad that I had the mountain gears installed a week before we left for Mont Ventoux. I have a triple and had 30 as smallest front and 25 as largest rear. For me as an average climber this would have been too much pavement. I was now riding comfortably on 30/32 and was able to get around very well on the steeper parts. I didn't drink enough, despite the fact that I had two 750ml water bottles (and some bubbles) with me. This resulted in a cramp 2 km after Chalet Reynard, which forced me to stop and stretch. After that, I cycled continuously against cramp. You hear and read it everywhere: drink a lot on the way! And yet I didn't do it enough, probably under the impression of the mountain and the focus on staying supple on the bike. I still had a whole bottle left at the top. Also my tip: drink regularly even if you're not thirsty! There was hardly any wind after Chalet Reynard and it is a very special experience to cycle through the barren landscape! And once at the top you forget all about it!

Climbed today. Despite a nice preparation very heavy until Chalet Reynard, then some relief. The view at the top is fantastic. A beast of a climb! Becoming Cingles de Ventoux is the goal this week, but that will be a tough job.

Well I have the Mont Ventoux last Saturday ridden 26 nice sweet people around me. Very nice climb only much rain thunder and hail had on the way to the top and the descent was also very wet. But we have beaten him :).

Beautiful climb, driven in the month of July. Tip: on warm days leave very early, it can be very hot in the afternoon when you pass the tree border.

After half a year of negotiations with the wife and kids, I was allowed to climb the Mt Ventoux today.
During our vacation we drive from the lake of Annecy to Cannes and so we come along the MT Ventoux.
This I can not (literally) ignore.
I did it 4 years ago and then relatively quietly. This time with more ambition and a new bike a second attempt with the goal to ride it hard/maximal up.
From the car it was already visible, the top not in the clouds, good weather, but how warm will it be ...?
Along the way, the thermometer in the car read 26 degrees ... this seemed to me not to be too bad, gradually the temperature went up and finally in Bedoin it "just" read 34 degrees.
Once outside on the first parking lot (left before Bedoin) I noticed that it was really hot!
My 7 year old daughter had to throw up again at the parking lot (she is car sick and had done this once already on the way).
We should have continued in one go, I thought...
While changing in the parking lot I'm still wearing my sunglasses (k(rak)), so I put on my 'regular' sunglasses.
I quickly put on my sunscreen, drank half a litre of water, put a banana and a gel in my back pocket and off I went...
Without warming up, but the first 10 minutes are relatively flat so I use those to "cycle in".
The first 20 minutes I manage to enjoy the fantastic nature around me, then the heat makes it hard for me to enjoy it anymore.
I keep focused and notice that it is very quiet, actually it is logical it is 13.00 hours, exactly the hottest part of the day.
During my previous trip here, I was occasionally encouraged by my wife and the kids, but this time they stayed downstairs because of my daughter's car sickness.
Lonely I plough on, it's heavy, hot, my daughter has to vomit on the way, I still have 5 hours of driving ahead of me, but I'm glad I'm here now!
I find it takes a very long time before I reach Chalet Reynard.
In the distance, I see the tower and can enjoy a little, it is less warm, there is little wind, just give it some more gas!
The last bit to the top hurts but is fine, it is busy here. Enjoyed the view and bought 5 winegums at the market stall at the top.
I still had 1 euro with me. The grumpy Frenchwoman did not see the fun of it. The most beautiful job in the world, on this mythical mountain selling candy to sugar craving cyclists but the face of an earwig ...
The mt Ventoux again "in the pocket". I check my watch and see that it took me 1.35 minutes. Almost fifteen minutes faster than last time and that at the hottest part of the day. This gives a nice feeling.
Like a granny (no risk) I descend and take a few pictures. In Bedoin I sick my wife and kids, my daughter is smiling again J
On to Cannes....

De mt Ventoux weer “in the pocket”.

Cycled the mont ventoux in 2012 for the KWF, and in 2016 a Mountain never to forget. A song was written about this.
Also, I was afraid of you, you are high, you are steep, you are strong.
They call you the hell of the south, that's not wrong....what was I supposed to do in return? Train, that's what I had to do, push myself beyond my limits, And then when I really couldn't go any further, push even harder.....! They call you the Mountain you can't win, I didn't win from you either, I don't tell myself that.... But you didn't win against me either, You hurt me, but that was okay The battle wasn't between you and me, I couldn't control you, But I could still hold on, and come out on top.... And I could calm myself, comfort myself, and reassure myself,in the moments that I was afraid..... I brought up what I wanted to bring up, and I came down as a man, because if you have climbed and descended Mont Ventoux, then you are someone.... Mont Ventoux doesn't leave your body again. Hail HJ. B.

Gegroet HJ.B

On 24 August, I climbed Bald Mountain again, the first time was with Sporza from Belgium and was also my first encounter with a mountain of size, my time was 2 hours and 30 minutes and now a 45 minutes faster, the encounter again was strange, now I was alone and had to do it alone, the weather was warm and there was a little breeze, the first meters were punishment and arrived in the forest it was only worse, it was really a victory for my body that I could maintain the pace (15km / h). We (my spouse and I) had just arrived from St Jean du Maurienne where we had been cycling for a week and I had to stay there for a few days because of an infection from the doctor. My body reacted well and was determined to achieve my goal, from the forest it became quieter, calmer and the pace went a little easier, arrived on the plateau at 6 km below the top I enjoyed the view from this point, it was busy there only cyclists and many motorcyclists had gathered here. I was planning to keep going and felt the wind right in my face as I continued the first few metres to the top, the road surface was good, the speed was reasonable and the view breathtaking, further on it got a bit steeper and many photographers along the way all wanted to sell their photos to the tourists, Arriving at the monument of Samson the cyclist who on his death day unfortunately did not reach the top a moment of reflection and wondering is it actually healthy what you're doing and thinking that I looked around me and saw only cyclists toiling up and a few already in the descent to his place, All in all another experience richer and enjoyed everything that offered on this mountain I decided after a good cup of coffee back to the campsite below to search, conclusion a must for any diehard who wants to find his limits and wants to exceed but keeps his head........ a satisfied cyclist

The whole year I was looking forward to the climb of last Saturday 23 sept 2017 via Malaucene. 3 days beforehand a buddy let me know that he wants to climb the mountain via all three sides and if I want to come along. It's worth a try. How cool!!! I really enjoyed it. We got up very early for the start of the Alpine tour to climb via Bedoin (average 9kmph). After Bedoin we descended to Malaucene to go straight up again and here I got cramp twice (average 7kmph). I decided to descend to Sault because on paper this would be the easiest, but the last 6 km are the same as via Bedoin (average 13 km/h). I only rode these kms with cramp but despite everything enjoyed a great day. Descending is not my thing. We had a super day weather wise, no wind at all and a lovely temperature. We spent over 9 hours on the bike and did 140km, while my longest ride is a 60k round trip to Scheveningen. Afterwards there was no pain at all except for a bit of saddle soreness but I guess that's not weird. The next morning I took the car up the mountain, almost blew off the wind and it was freezing cold. All in all 1 of the best days of my life and I wouldn't have missed it for the world. With the total team Raymont-Ventoux we raised over €19.000,00 for Support Casper and still counting.

Thousands of years ago, the French said to each other: guys, there are so many stones lying around in this country, we'll just throw them somewhere in the Provence, there's plenty of room.
And that's what we're still up against today. And because that mountain shouldn't be there the wind blows like that. Go and see for yourself, there is not one high mountain in the neighbourhood.
This knowledge you have from E.Perk, Diemen, 27 September 2017

Beginning July for the 9th time done the Ventoux. (My dad has done the Ventoux 37 times now. The last few years, we have always gone to Provence for 2 weeks. This year, we first did a week in the Alps and then a week in Provence. We drove up the Ventoux from bedoin in 1h 27min and 15 sec exactly. My dad reached the top in 1h 30 min and 50 sec. I waited till 4 km (actually 4,5 km because the last km is 1,5 km long) from the top for my dad and then I drove away from him. My dad was slightly better on most alpine cols so I wanted to wait for him too, but at 4.5 km from the top he told me to keep going. My dad's best time on the ventoux was 1h 22min 30 sec. 2 beautiful weeks with a lot of altimeters. The stage where we did the Croix de fer (from Allemont) was probably the best because my dad and I were equally good. During the week in Provence, I was glad that my mom and sister were in the support vehicle to give me fresh water. I thought the most difficult col was the col du sabot because I didn't know it and it was 4 km longer than I thought. It is a pity that such a difficult col ends in a dead end at the top, and that there is only a very small sign with col du sabot. On to the Vosges at the end of August. (And in between, some rides in the hills and in the ardennes)

To qualify as a real cyclist in my cycling environment, you had to have climbed the Mont Ventoux. At the first attempt in the past the top was closed, because of strong wind and the second time because of snow (...).
But finally I went up from Bedoin. The first time just under 2 hours, but then I was still racing and weighed 71kg. I used the 39x25. Past Tommy I was forced to make the 25 dirty.
After a few years of cycling elsewhere I climbed the Ventoux again. It took me longer though. There are two ways to get to the top. To not make it too hard on myself with the compact 34x50 and 11x28 I also lost 4 kg in weight. A Triple is for wimps, I read at Limburgs Mooiste. I do not subscribe to that!
From Bedoin, after the top of the Ventoux, I did the descent to Malaucene. That was a 20km concentrated descent. I didn't go faster than 60km/h because the mind comes with the years.
Then from Malaucene via the Madeleine back to Bedoin.
From Bedoin, where the misery starts at the hairpin bend, jokers once painted on the road. GO HOME. It made me laugh.

GO HOME. Ik heb er om moeten lachen.

Climbed for the first time in 2014 for charity. The Bedoin side was a real hell back then. Heat in the forest and fog and wind in the moonscape. This year I came back to do the Cinglé. The whole spring I trained well and lost 12 kg of weight. Left Malaucene at 6.00 am and got to the top at 8.00 am. The second climb from Bedoin was a lot harder but once out of the forest you can also go to the top. The last of the 3 from Sault is doable, even pieces 30km/h near the Chalet. The moon landscape didn't give in easily. 0m 18.00 the last time on the top. Conclusion: training/resistance and weather play a big role. Use this to your advantage!

Good condition is essential, miles are not. I did it once practically untrained but with a good condition by running on my first bustrane. The most important thing is to stay under your threshold whereby a Polar can be of use. Fairly inexperienced I arrived in Carpentras with a 52/48. You are young and daring. Profile doesn't seem right, I think that at two thirds there was a 13% piece at one and a half km.

A few years ago I did the Mont Ventoux from Bedoin. First 5 km indeed a warming up. Then the turn into the forest. Immediately on the poles percentages of 10, 11.5 and 12%. Had all but the right gears on my 7speed and 42 front blade, swinging across the road to make it a little less steep.
Good, survived this, and as the forest thinned out a bit and there were a few bungalows in between the trees, it was running a bit nicer. The Chalet Renard became visible. Round the bend there, that steeper bit wasn't too bad either.
At the monument of Tommy Simpson I suddenly felt completely acidified. Cycled 3 laps on the road and continued without lactic acid.
A Frenchman came along in my wheel. He was hanging on to the elastic in the bends where the wind was against him. Passed the top, rounded the bend and while I saw the frenchman trying to accelerate, stepped on the pedals on the final steep part and was the first of the two to reach the top.
Half an hour of panting over the handlebars.
I was sometimes surprised to see very heavy and fat people, soaking wet, sitting on their bikes, even far beyond the points where people give up. Chapeau for these people, for them it is extra difficult.
Great job.
On the way in the woods I was passed by someone on a hybrid bike with mudguards, a luggage carrier and side bag. The guy was wearing gray socks and some sort of athletic shoes. It was a small, light man and at the top he had been standing there for half an hour, he wasn't even wet with sweat anymore.
I tried to strike up a conversation with him and he turned out to be German. He preferred the French language, because he lived here with his French girlfriend in Marseille and wanted to practice French.
A nice guy, a bit shy and not very talkative in the beginning, but later in the conversation that went better.
Beautiful weather. Wide views all around. Conversations in the Dutch language upstairs, Dutchmen and Flemings.

A correction: my racing bike has 4 wheels, including side wheels.

Prachtig mooi weer. Weids uitzicht rondom. Hoordzakelijk conversaties in de Nederlandse taal boven, Nederlanders en Vlamingen.

Even ter correctie: mijn racefiets heeft 4 wielen, inclusief zijwieltjes.

What a great mountain! Yesterday I cycled with 4 colleagues. Half year ago we decided to take on the challenge together. With my weight of over 100 kilos, I got a bit nervous after all the stories, but I started training well. A few tours (e.g. Veenendaal - Veenendaal) gave me more confidence. Friday 02-06-2017 we left and went full throttle to the south. Friday evening (directly after arrival) Col de Madeleine to warm up a bit. Saturday morning to Bedoin. 10 kilometres warming up and then to the start line.
The first 5 kilometers no pain at all, but then into the forest, the first kilometer pfff .... What was this? Why? I saw after 6 km already people turn around and give up, but also 2 walked with the bike to the top. I doubted for a moment, but thought, that never, just get off the bike and rest, but everything through the 2 tires and my pedals. My mind automatically went to 0 and before I knew it I saw a pole with Sommet 8km on it. I knew I was only 2 km to Chalet Reynard. Quietly I continued upwards, meter by meter, but also kilometer by kilometer. Only 7, 6, 5 ... Lovely. At kilometer 18 (3 to the end) I noticed I was getting pretty tired. I just had to push on and there was the last corner. My colleagues had all climbed to the top and came riding back to pick me up. With 5 km per hour and tears in my eyes I climbed the last 300 metres. There was the very last corner. The top was still 20 meters away. I stood on the pedals and reached it. What a victory over myself. Now just back in the Netherlands and I still feel great.

Paar toertochtje (o.a.

Yesterday I rode with a 39x27 which I will anything but recommend, unfortunately nothing else available for this groupset. Especially in the woods I would have liked something easier but before that and from Chalet Reynard it was doable. Obviously a beautiful climb, recommended for everyone to ride once!

I have been climbing the Ventoux for over 30 years and of course it is not as fast as it used to be.
If you train enough you should be able to reach the top with a 30 rear and a compact. But do not be ashamed of a 32 on the cassette.
It is not cool (but especially stupid) to stomp to the top, lighter pedalling makes it considerably easier and you'll reach the top faster too.
Last year I did the Cinglée (3x on 1 day from the 3 different sides) and because you break down, the 32 would have been welcome to me as well.

I would personally recommend, a triple in the front or a compact with at least a 32 in the back.
I did it from Malaucene in the morning and then in the afternoon from Bédoin. Each time around 2 hours.
Two years ago I did it from Bédoin with a triple in the front in 1.48 and not tired at all. You can clearly see the advantage of the triple.

Climbed this mountain at the end of April 2016. A beautiful climb that takes a lot out of you, but especially the weather conditions killed me. Extremely strong wind and a temperature of -4,5 degrees C made it exhausting. I was blown backwards twice with the wind at my head and with shorts and only a thin rain jacket over the short sleeves from Reynard onwards, it was far too cold. I was glad that my family was in the car so I could sit out of the icy wind on the deserted summit. There were literally icicles of 20 cm horizontal hanging from the poles! Estimated wind chill -30 degrees C. Never suffered so much, but extra satisfied when the top was reached. Tried to descend from the top, but after 2 times with feet on the ground almost being blown into the abyss, we decided for safety's sake to go down in the car until Reynard to descend. All in all a great and terrible experience !!!! Once but never again!

Last week I rode it, if you are reasonably trained and ride on your heart rate then it is fine to do, less heavy than expected.

Struggling in the woods, enjoying the view in the lunar landscape. Wind !?? The two days I went up, there was a pleasant breeze.

Wednesday, August 10, I climbed the mountain by bike for the first time from Bedoin. The wind was very strong > 100 km per hour. I am an experienced cyclist and have done some climbing in Spain before. Because of the wind, the descent was not without danger. So be careful! Drive up at your own pace. Save your strength because it is long enough and make sure you drink and eat enough. Watch the weather and go in time if it is very hot. Good luck.

Succes.

Today I wanted to climb the mountain from Bedoin for the first time. Unfortunately, Bedoin was already closed to cyclists this morning at 7 am because of a running marathon. So I took the bike to Malaucene and started the climb. Fantastic feeling during the ride and even better upon arrival after 2 hours. For me, there is only one golden tip and that is to follow your own feeling and not try to overtake someone or follow a passer-by. I rode constantly on heart rate and with the necessary effort but without problems at the top. Sufficient food and drink is of course a must. Take events on the Mont Ventoux into account so you are not surprised.

Hi Kevin,
I cycled up the Ventoux from Bédoin this week too. I cycle occasionally but certainly not hundreds of kilometers. The days before I rode around Provence (Madeleine, col de la Chaine, etc.) to get some tension in my calves. Then up the Ventoux. Pretty heavy because I was riding a 28 at the back... It took me more than 2 hours :) With a good gear (32) and some training, it certainly goes a lot smoother!

Hoi Kevin,

Rode to the top of Mont Ventoux from Sault on April 29, 2016 with my son of 15 and my father of 73. My father for the 6th time (4x Sault, 1x Bedoin, 1x Malaucène). My son and I for the 2nd time. Last summer we did it for the first time. After that, we did a lot of km's and climbed a lot of hills in the surroundings of our hometown, Amerongse Berg, surroundings Doorwerth etc. The result is that I am now 45 minutes faster than last summer. Also for the side of Sault it is recommended to have km's in your legs and that you know in what gear you can cycle best. Nice experience to stand with 3 generations on the top.

Last wednesday I left with my wife and a cycling buddy from our holiday address just outside Sault and cycled to the top. Descended to Bédoin and back to the top. Spicy, but still doable. Thursday with our cycling buddy and both our sons (11 and 12 years old) from Sault to the top again. Both boys made it! Very handsome and very proud! Friday we did the climb from Malaucène. What a wonderful Ventoux week!

Beide jongens gehaald! Superknap en supertrots! Vrijdag nog de klim vanuit Malaucène gedaan. Wat een heerlijke Ventoux fietsweek!

As an experienced Mont Ventoux climber (>15 times) I say; do not underestimate this beautiful (bald) mountain! The climb from Bedoin I find boring and heavy. Personally, I like it better from Malaucene. From Sault, the climb is long but beautiful and therefore less difficult. However, it is the cold and the wind and (unexpected) rain that can kill you after the Chalet (another 6 km climb). Also in the summer months it is cold up to the top and back is often a cold stormy descent awaits you. You can call this mythical, but not harmless if you are inexperienced. It is in no way comparable with the Alpe D'Huez...

Cycled up to 2 km under the summit, then blown off my bike by a gust of wind when turning one of the corners, painful fall and dangerous in the corner with all those cars. Will try again this year on June 10 in the framework of Kimmen for MS, I hope I will succeed this time. I actually rarely hear that people do not make it, but despite pretty good condition and good bike, I still do not belong to the (not at all select) club of cyclists, so hopefully I will on June 10.

As a 14 year old I climbed the mont ventoux with gear 34 - 28, definitely recommended, even smaller is better, my time was 1h45 from Bedoin.
Good to do, but good condition is certainly needed.

Wonderful mythical climb! The first part in the forest is actually harder than the last 6 km, where you can see the top from far away and thus get wings. Of course we also stopped at the monument of Tom Simpson just before the top. Recommended: from the top descend to Malaucene and then via the Col de Madeleine (not the one in the French Alps, but a much lighter version) back to Bedoin; all in all, a round trip of about 50 kilometres.

Prachtige mythische beklimming!

On September 5, 2015, I climbed the Mont Ventoux from Sault for Grootverzet tegenkanker.
In 2013 from Bedoin, I found the climb lighter from Sault. At Chalet Reynard the route from Sault and Bedoin meet, so the last 6 km to the top are equally tough, I had more strength left now than in 2013.

Make sure you have enough for the part from Chalet Reynard, that's a killer. On average, the gradient may be lower than in the forest, but some parts go up to 11-14%. If you have already an hour to an hour and a half on it, you can lose a lot. This side of the road is more evenly matched than the one from Malaucene, which I found more difficult. Got to the top after 1:43, could have been faster, were it not for the fact that the calves and glutes completely seized up just after the chalet (ouch!). A bit too much in the woods.

First time in my life I rode up the mountain, but I got to the top except for the wrong gear choice.
Beautiful view from up there. Did a great descent afterwards.

prachtig zicht daar boven prachtige afdaling gedaan nadien

This year I rode the Ventoux again. The last 2 years I have been cycling a lot, so my expectations were a bit higher than the times I rode in the past (1.52 Bedion and 1.57 Malaucene). I entered the Malaucene side early, around 6.30 am. Unfortunately there was a nasty headwind: 1.39. I still find this the most difficult of the 2 climbs.
Two days later it was the turn of the familiar side: Bedoin. Because I would leave with a cycling buddy and both families would cheer for me, we left around 10.15 am. The climb went well and after 1.33 I reached the top.

It was easy to do, only the 12% was hard. Take it easy at the beginning, don't ride too fast, just take it easy.

i climbed mont ventoux 2 times last week 90 kg and just a football player :-) .once malaucene 1h 54 and once bedoin 1h 55. Bedoin I found personally more difficult because it is very hot and you have a lot of trouble with those annoying flies ... Once up, the wind plays tricks on you. Incredibly good and blissful feeling when you reach the top! tips: leave early because otherwise the heat is not to do ... and take enough drinks with you ...
Good luck and enjoy!

Dear Huub, I checked the graphs again. And I made some small adjustments, so the values are much closer together. But we measure the kilometres from the start, and therefore there can be small differences in the percentages because each kilometre has a different start and finish. I have adjusted the road quality. Thanks for this info.

On 25th May 2015 I cycled for Klimmen tegen MS on the Mont Ventoux.
At the height of chalet Reynard, the route via Sault and Bedoin meet and the last 6 km to the top of both routes are therefore identical. The slope percentages in your graphs should be identical but they are not. Furthermore, it is indicated that the road surface via Sault is bad but that in 2014 already has been provided with a new road surface from Sault all the way to chalet Reynard. Also the last 6 km to the top, the road surface is good instead of bad.
Eg Huub Maas.

Mvg Huub Maas.

First time climbed via Bédoin in 1 h 55 at the age of 50.
Was heavy but doable if you are in shape.
Definitely go back a few times.

The climb I did on 8 September from Bedoin. the golden advice I give everyone is, start slowly and keep dosing well. I rode with a compact (34 in the front and 30 in the back), this is definitely recommended. Also make sure you have a good condition. My time was 1h58. Once you reach the top, you get an abnormal feeling of discharge and emotions! Must have done as a cyclist!

Mijn tijd was 1h58.

For the first time cycled for charity with a loaner bike of +/- 30 years old (gears still on the tube) started from sault to the top doable.
Second time started from bedoin very heavy, but once on top a great feeling.

As 16 year old climbed, first few kilometers very easy but you better save your strength for the next 15 kilometers. The last 15 km it's constant struggle, but absolutely achievable. I climbed with a compact and that went very well. If you are in provence you should definitely do it!

Do you find the Mont Ventoux an experience, take once the effort the Sommet de Lure, which is over 50 km eastwards and the little brother of the Ventoux is called with a height of 1826 (top), the pass is located at 1755 meters. It is much tougher than the tables show and they almost certainly underestimate this mountain. Apart from visually almost the same view of the top, this climb feels the same. The good news is: the last few kilometers the gradient flattens out a bit, so it is a good way to arrive. On my meter a climb of 18.5 km, no mean feat. Do it!
I climbed the Ventoux more than 10 times from all sides, the Lure 3 times. Have a lot of fun.

Fantastic col. Which I have climbed several times. It's a surprise every time.
If you ever ride it. Start slowly and do not go over your head. It will benefit you if you have already climbed some kilometers.

Fantastiche col.
