I've been up this hill... down ... And I stopped to photograph the statue of Hubert Latham, an aviation pioneer, born in 1883 and probably murdered in 1912, aged 29. He tried twice to cross the English Channel and failed both times.
The statue is almost 3 metres high and is the work of the sculptor Georges Vergez. It was unveiled on 13 August 1922 in the presence of the aviator's mother and sister. Louis Blériot gave a moving speech on this occasion.
