Road name: Rue Pasteur
4.0 by LeonThis is an automatic translation, the original language is: Dutch. The climb can easily be described as a brutal wall. In one straight line, you will climb several hundred meters at percentages of around 15% or even higher. My fifth star is only missing because the climb isn't one of the most beautiful ones in the area, yet along the way you have a view (if you still have the breath to enjoy it) of the Echinghen viaduct. Only the Rue Eugène Varlin is steeper for miles around, and that one is also on top of the same hill. That makes this climb an abso... read more

The essentials have already been said: a wall running through a suburb of Boulogne-sur-Mer, which was also crossed by the Tour de France 2025. It's tough, but it's a lot easier to cross than its cousin on rue Eugène Varlin. I would like to add that I think this hill has a beautiful view and a good setting, despite the existing traffic.
Made on 6 July 2025 before the Tour riders. The climb is extremely steep all the way, which makes it very difficult. This was the first time I'd done it even though I often train in the area. The condition of the road is OK but it's not incredible. Worth doing if you train in the area, there's the Outreau hill not far away, the Haut Pichot, the Blanche Jument hill, in short... A very tough climb that can be done in the same outing as the other climbs I mentioned earlier.
Done on several occasions and really nice, with a good average!
Before trying to figure out what Eugène Varlin did to deserve such a ribbon in his name, I tried out the less inhuman version.
It is indeed a wall, a very heavy wall, but in the end, it can be climbed. By pulling hard on your arms...
But it was a big, bitter disappointment: as interesting as this climb is from a cycling point of view, it's completely insignificant from every other point of view.
At the top, there are some very plain houses and a cemetery. OK, so there is the viaduct, but it's far away and drowned in buildings that are not very harmonious.
So I hesitated to give it 4 stars, but I couldn't... With Léon's 4 stars, this coast will have a rating of 3.5. I tell myself that we're fine like this...

Only the Rue Eugène Varlin is steeper for miles around, and that one is also on top of the same hill. That makes this climb an absolute must for the fans of steep climbing.
