A nice alternative is from Epenerbaan up the Raerenderstraat climb, descend via Meelenbroek road and then up this climb to the border.
Leuke klim uit het dal van buurtschap Meelenbroek. Eerste stuk is prima te doen. Steilste stuk krijg je op de Gemmenicherweg voor de wielen als je aan laatste stuk van Pas van Wolfhaag begint. Wil je een keer niet vanuit Vaalsbroek via de Pas van Wolfhaag omhoog richting grens? Een leuk alternatief is vanaf de Epenerbaan de klim van de Raerenderstraat op, afdelen via Meelenbroek weg en dan deze klim omhoog naar de grens.
First part of the climb is on a quiet road with nice views at the beginning, but then between houses. The road ends up at the Gemmenicherweg, which is a bit busier, and ends up at the Wolfhaag pass and the border with Belgium/Wallonia. The whole road has good tarmac with varying percentages with the steepest part on the Gemmenicherweg. At the top you can descend to Gemmenich and climb towards the border from the Belgian side. Eerste deel van de klim is op een rustig weggetje met aan het begin nog mooie uitzichten, maar daarna tussen de huizen. De weg komt uit bij de Gemmenicherweg, die wat drukker is, en uitkomt bij de Pas van Wolfhaag en de grens met België/Wallonië. De hele weg is prima asfalt met wisselende percentages met het steilste stuk op de Gemmenicherweg. Boven kun je afdalen naar Gemmenich en daar richting drielandenpunt klimmen vanaf de Belgische kant. Aardige klim en vlak voor de pas mooie uitzichten

Redelijk fluctuerende klim waarbij je over een rustige weg vooral tussen huizen doorrijdt met her en der een steiler stukje. Soms mooi uitzicht. Klimtechnisch wordt het pas interessant als je rechtsaf de (heel drukke) Gemmenicherweg opdraait want dan mag je aan de bak.
Riskant om af te dalen vanwege de drukke Gemmenicherweg en omdat het lastig is te zien waar je linksaf moet.

Deze weg is in combinatie met de Rarenderstraat een leuk alternatief voor de pas van wolfhaag (uiteindelijk kom je ook op de pas uit). De klimmen zelf zijn niet spectaculair, maar de rustige weg en ligging maken veel goed. Mooi authentieke vakwerkhuizen en mooie uitzichten.
