Highly recommended! The tunnel alone is worth it. Tough climb you can often do without running into anyone.
Echt een aanrader! De tunnel alleen al de moeite waard. Pittige klim doe je vaak zonder iemand tegen ge komen kan doen.
Definitely worth doing, and preferably from Aigle, for the steep gradients that provide good training. This is a very lightly travelled route, and there are some great rewards in the final stretch, with passages through tunnels that are not concreted over, then a magnificent unobstructed view of the Lake Geneva Riviera, and finally the superb route overlooking Lac de l'Hongrin and the impressive Tour d'Aï. Return via the Col des Mosses with a fast, gentle descent.
Highly recommended. Indeed a special and very calm climb with stunning landscape changes and vistas. Because it is not a main or connection road, it is hardly frequented. It is rather an acces road to the lac de l’ Hongrin valley, which starts after the pass and is a military training zone, during specific periods.
From Yvorne to the pass the route to La Lecherette is always open between May 31st. and Nov 1st. The Agites tunnel, between Corbeyrier and the pass, is single lane and without lighting, but with several rock openings. During weekends and public holidays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., a passage schedule is defined. The ascent towards L’Hongrin valley is authorized for motorized traffic during the first quarter of an hour (00 to 15) and the descent towards Corbeyrier during the third quarter of an hour (30 to 45). By bike, I would recommend a front and back light and then you can pass at all hours (at own risk), as there is room to pass a car coming from the opposite side as long as they see you coming.
After the pass, you enter the military zone (crossing a shooting range of the Swiss Army) and it is therefore closed from Monday to Friday subject to shooting notices. If closed, there is a guard. On the other hand, access is allowed on weekends and during the Swiss summer Holliday period. The military road after the pass becomes a two lane, rather flat road with lots of bridges, but due to not being a regular thru road, is mostly devoid of any traffic. It is a perfect time trial training section all the way to la Lecherette, where you can join the regular cantonal road to col des Mosses.
The pass section of the road is closed to traffic between Luan to La Lécherette from November 1 to May 31.
This is a must-do! It is a bizarre climb, starting between the wine vineyards. If you like to hurt yourself, ride through the vineyards, instead of taking the hairpins (>20%). After the vineyards, you go into the forest, slowly working yourself up. The second village (Luan) is the final village for quite some time (also on the decent side), so if you need anything, get it there.
After the village, you decent another steep section and arrive at the tunnel. This is very cool! A tunnel dug by hand, with no lights (so bring your own!). There are some windows which give a spectacular view. However, make sure you google this tunnel in advance! I believe you can only pass during weekends and during the summer holiday. There is only 15 min of traffic allowed in 1 direction every hour.
