A very pleasant climb, with some nice steep sections.

A climb that I love, I did it again last year with the gravel after having done it twice on the road (I'm from the area 50 km away), to be able to link up with the Lac du Guéry and then the Col de Oingt (footpath). The road climbs up to the refuge, then it's an impassable road for a road bike. But above all it is a real pleasure to climb for my small and light frame. The slope is very irregular oscillating at times at 2-3% but just after at 12-13% in some bends especially just before the plateau and at the foot where it starts directly by 8% to reach the VVF village then a flat area and then after passing the barrier it doesn't disconnect for 3 km before 1 and a half km of flat to find the refuge-restaurant. On the other hand dangerous descent with the road in average state because of the passages of the tractors.

Start in Bourboule between the houses and at an average of around 7%. From Murat-le-Quaire onwards it goes up steeper with long stretches around or above 10%. There is almost no traffic and the road surface is good. The path then passes a lake and several camp sites until it takes a few hairpin bends. The gradients remain high. At 3km from the top there is a sign with the percentages of climb and per kilometer a sign with the data of the next kilometer. These signs are not correct because it is much steeper than indicated. Definitely a hidden gem in the region because almost no cyclists. The last 3 km is on fantastic road surface so even better than the first kilometers. A very difficult climb with the steepest part at 14% (via Garmin 1000 and 1030) just past restaurant en au potable in Murat-le-Quaire. Highly recommended if you are in the area.
