The first part of this climb is on reasonable to good tarmac where the road gets steeper against the northern slope of the Eifel. At the edge of the forest you turn left and there is the asphalt contiguous but it seems to be put down with buckets. So this piece is very bumpy. Here you do have a panoramic view to the left, including the colossal lignite power plant of Weissweiler. The highest point is at the hide.
Het eerste deel van deze klim gaat over redelijk tot goed asfalt waar bij de weg steeds iets steiler omhoog loopt tegen de noordelijke helling van de Eifel. Bij de bosrand ga je linksaf en daar is het asfalt wel aaneengesloten maar lijkt het met emmers te zijn neergelegd. Dit stuk is dus erg hobbelig. Hier heb je wel weids uitzicht naar links, o.a. over de kolossale bruinkoolcentrale van Weissweiler. Bij de schuilhut is het hoogste punt.
