5.0 by christinei climbed from val d’isere actually, to avoid nearly 4km worth of dark tunnels from Tignes (uphill on way up) without separate bike lane, with traffic. From val D it was superb! stunning views, thrilling heights and spectacular top of climb. training ground for Bora and Visma guys today pre TDF ! pass was closed (12/6/24) but you could ride to top of col, road closure was 300m past the col. lots of marmots! ... read more

Mythical pass, long and fortunately dotted with flats. Done on a mountain bike, to be done again with muscle power.
A truly must do. There is indeed really much traffic from Bourg st. Maurice to La Daille/Val d'Isere (1800m high), so I would definately start from there (I could park for free there on one of the ski-parkings).
If you're in the mood, you can descent to Bonneval sur Arc (also at 1800m) to climb it from the other side as well.
Climb done on Wednesday 25 June'25 .Initial plan was to start this climb from Bourg-Saint-Maurice. But due to many roadworks and too much (freight) traffic, I started from Tignes. From there it's another 26 km or so of climbing. First through some tunnels to then start the climb via Val D'Isere. From there it is a very even climb which allows you to quickly adopt a good pedalling frequency and thus ride up at your own pace. Ideal weather conditions: +/- 25 degrees and at the top it was still +/- 19 degrees. At about +/- 3 km from the summit, I was passed by R.EV 😎
It's best to do it from Val d'Isère, as the tunnels from Tignes are not the best and are a bit dangerous. After the iseran is very beautiful, it's a real pass but you won't hit any severe slopes on this side.
Super nice climb. The view at the top is magnificent
Super belle montée. La vue est magnifique en haut
