There are no particular difficulties on this ascent, which takes place entirely in woodland.
The forest road is quiet. The tarmac is fine most of the time, which makes the descent much safer than on the west side.
The gradient is moderate, except at the very beginning as you leave Niederbronn (200m ramp at 11%) and at the very end, after the Col de la Liese (the last section is shared with the west side).
The Grand Wintersberg tower is in the forest (no view). The area is mainly used by hikers; you will hardly come across any cyclists.
