Quite a few altimeters and climbing points, but to name it a pleasure to ride? Well no. The first part you have to share with cars and trucks and because of a central reservation there is little space available. Then it gets a little better, although the slope is difficult to estimate but it certainly climbs. After the side road to Klimmen you see the road rising nicely again and a nice view unfolds to the left but unfortunately you also change here from a bicycle lane to a tarmac bike path which is quite bumpy. Fortunately, it is then not so far. Nice because of the slopes, moderate because of the crowds and (some of) the surface.

First of all a busy road. Until the junction with the road towards Klimmen the path is good. But after the junction the path is terribly tiled. I do not like it at all. The view to the left is worthwhile. A nice option is to send your bike on the tiled path into the first road on the right and continue along the Emmabergweg and the Groeneweg.

I know the climb mainly as the toughest climb of the AGR for amateurs (on the Saturday).

When you're on top of the cauberg, enjoying your beer and having a good time at the finish, you have to go back to the parking lot. The legs really don't want to go.

Recently I was in Zuid-Limburg and wanted to do the Cauberg (and the Gulperberg). On the day of our departure however I was too tired: I had the whole day ahead of me and wanted to save my strength. On a normal city bike and with a backpack this slope is doable, but not easy. The stretch of false flat between Valkenburg-city and Emmaberg is treacherous: the steepest part is still to come and that is not what you are prepared for.
