Pont du Loup was a popular summer resort during the Belle Époque. Queen Victoria loved it.
From this very strange Pont du Loup, a number of rather interesting climbs cross or begin.
The Col de l'Êcre is the best known, but the climb to Courmes deserves to be better known.
Although not as stunning as the Cians or Daluis gorges, the Loup gorges are quite spectacular and well worth the walk.
Next, leave the D6 (or gorges road) and fork right onto the D503. The scenery becomes more ordinary. But at least the road is deserted.
Then, once again, the views become beautiful until you reach Courmes, a village that doesn't seem to appreciate cars (photo).
It's a really nice ride that doesn't require much effort, as the gradients are so gentle.
In this area, there are so many options for tackling some really nasty walls (Courmettes, Le Caire, Chemin de Saint Jean...) that it's a pleasure to pedal lightly!
