I found the Cinq Châteaux (which was also climbed in the 2019 Tour de France) to be doable. The climb is indeed quite regular but steep sections are not long and moderate percentages and even small bits of flat and downhill made me recover pretty quickly. The road surface was not the best everywhere. You ride through the forest, don't expect any views here. What struck me is that there is not really a clear top. The road flattened out a bit, I got some small descents and climbs and suddenly I was in a fast descent. Once you've done that you have a beautiful view over the sloping vineyards between Husseren and Voegtlinshoffen.

I am very disappointed by this climb, I thought I was going to be able to admire the different castles during the ascent but we don't see them. Moreover, this climb is irregular with many passages at +10% followed by flatter portions, which is difficult to find one's rhythm. The state of the road is rather bad and a lot of cars pass by.

I did this climb at the end of June as a warm-up cycle tour directly after arriving in Eguisheim. A nice climb, but also not worth a detour. I found 'm spicier than expected because the rise is very irregular. Disadvantage I found is that you have no really nice view of the surroundings because you're constantly between the trees.

For the inexperienced climber a nice challenge. Reasonable climbing percentages but not too long so the end stays in sight. Take the short, steep climb to the big castle at the top (up to 15%). Descent to Husseren is steeper so the pace flies.
Our tour, perfect for non experienced mountain bikers like us: Cote des cinq chateaux from Wintzenheim. Via Husseren you descend to the start of the Cote des Gueberschwihr. This connects via a nice descent to the last 3.5 km of the Col de Firstplan. After the descent to Wihr au Val the cycle path in the valley brings you in 9km back to Wintzenheim. Total about 53 km.

Totaal ongeveer 53 km.

The profile of this climb is especially "interesting" from the other side, there is a piece in the beginning of over a kilometer at an average of +/- 14%.

Nice short climb. The road surface is indeed on the bad side, especially during the descent.
I only saw one car during this climb, so traffic is rather low in my opinion.

Leuke korte klim.
