The toughest climb of all on Kluisberg. Is merciless for people without course knowledge. After the first steep part in the open field it levels off a bit. At the beginning of the forest it gets very steep again just before the top. So be sure to have some time to spare.... read more

One of my all-time favorites in the Flemish Ardennes. Good tarmac, nice open views, and challenging without being destructive.

Heavy climb where you see the road steep up after a few hundred meters.
Just like the Eyserbosweg, the steepest part is in the forest.

The Trieu is also a well known slope that you must have done. I had it pretty hard on this climb. No idea why, because there are no overly steep parts. The hardest part is at the end and it is careful for passing cars on some pieces.

Save your strength for the section from the house on the left. Starts easy, but gets steeper as you approach the grove.
At the turn, the percentages climb to 12-13%.

As a beginning climber I have long deliberately avoided this because of the name / reputation it has in the classics, and I took the Karnemelkbeekstraat back after climbing Kluisberg (from Ruien).
But after a 'compulsory passage' (because it was in a course) I find it not so bad, quite even, once you've found your pace it's just keep on pounding, value Karnemelkbeekstraat rather a climb 'in stages'.

The nearby sheep hill (Riekestraat + scherpenberg) is more difficult than this one. The trieu is doable, fairly even, no extreme steep parts.
Find your pace and keep it up.

In Wallonia, this climb is called "côte de Trieu". Also not to be missed on that Walloon side of the Kluiberg/mont de l'Enclus is the nearby Horlitin.
