This one will take a long time. Very irregular gradient, many times above 15% as indicated by road signs. The valley to get there is spectacular(from Dronero), Then from Ponte Marmora is the last shop before the top. Soon after you get into a forest and leave it for the final 10, breathtaking kilometers. The final stretch, where you can see the top is the hardest in my opinion, but once you get there, a statue of "Il Pirata" will greet you.... read more

The road is well, but generally unproblematic uphill. You simply have to be careful uphill. The views and impressions make up for a lot. Relatively constant percentages except in the nasty middle section with up to 20%.

I climbed this side of the Fauniera pass during a 3-day holiday in the province of Cuneo in September 2025. On the two previous days I had tackled the Demonte and Pradleves slopes, respectively. In my opinion, the Ponte Marmora slope is the most beautiful from a scenic point of view, the least difficult (but be careful...it remains very demanding in terms of length and a couple of tears above 15%...), and the one with the worst road surface conditions. This is why you should be very careful if you decide to descend from this slope. Among other things, the road is very narrow and has rather dangerous blind bends if tackled without due caution. I started out from San Damiano di Macra (just after the pretty village of Dronero), after parking for free near the Carabinieri station (coming from Dronero, on the right, at the beginning of the village). In this way you warm up your leg for 12/13 km pedalling along the Valle Maira road. Then you turn left and the climb begins, with an average gradient slightly lower than that of the other two slopes, but with a couple of fairly tough one-hundred-metre climbs. when you reach the Esischie pass, be careful! There are 200 metres of descent, then the hard work is not over! The last kilometre is really hard again, also because the fatigue in your legs continues to make itself felt. A very beautiful climb, not to be missed.
