Quite a demanding climb. You don't rest very often, and certainly not for long! Some pretty views just before reaching the summit. At the top, a poor, sad sign. This pass is worth doing, but it's not a magical climb.
Be smarter than me and go up to Chamrousse. I didn't understand where to turn off...
Ascension assez exigeante.
Our team (80 people) did this last week. You come through the city and is welcomed by some very high % just when you are about to get out of that city. It "evens" out a bit on the next part, but never much of a rest anywhere on this climb. Make sure you climb it from the right side as going down with those % and the road surface will be very tricky. We found a little parking spot on the left hand just before the Strava KOM so we could regather the team there.
This was my goal for the season, a cool climb starting from Grenoble-Vizille-Séchilienne to warm up, then a non-stop attack right to the end, with a few tiny moments of respite, the end is difficult but what a pleasure to get to the top with this superb view. The climb is cool and there are no cars, which is perfect.
Did the climb in 2001 upfront watching the CLM (ITT) at the TdF; time recorded with a HAC4 cyclo computer was about 47 min; bike Bianchi EV2 (non slooping) with DA 39-27 gearing.
Downhill has been more sweatening already in the early 2000s.
The bike survived just 2 years until the frame cracked, likewise the second slooping in 2006.
Anyhow, since 2019 on sunny sundays I still enjoy an EV4 (frame 2004, 2010 Campa SR 39/53-11-21)

Very difficult ascent with a rather bad surface, better to go down by the Vaulnaveys side!
Very tough climb. Few places to recover. Descent is dangerous by the many small stones on the road
Zeer zware klim.
For those who wish, it is possible to lengthen this climb considerably by taking the road to Chamrousse after the col du Luitel. 7.5 km more climbing by a less steep but much wider route.
Beautiful and especially tough climb. Difficult descent with here and there bad road surface. Recommended.
Aanrader.
