Col de Marocaz from Thoiry

A climb that’s tricky to get to grips with; you pass through lovely mountain scenery and small hamlets, with a rollercoaster-like route alternating between steep sections, rolling stretches and short descents…It’s only the final few kilometres that remind us we’re actually climbing a proper mountain pass (the other side of which is far more spectacular).

The climb from Thoiry is not very steep but it is irregular, with occasional flats and even slight descents and one that is steeper. As a result, the percentage is sometimes higher, but only for short distances. The road is very quiet and of fairly good quality. The views are often very pleasant, both over the countryside and the peaks of the Bauges, including Mont Margériaz, the Croix du Nivolet and the Pointe de la Galoppaz. At the pass, the view stretches from the Lauzière range to the northern Belledonne. This climb can be added to one of the many others in the area to complete an outing.
