Col de Marocaz from Thoiry

A climb that’s hard to get a handle on—you pass through beautiful mountain scenery and small hamlets along a roller-coaster-like route, alternating between steep sections, rolling stretches, and short descents...Only the last few kilometers remind us that we’re actually climbing a real mountain pass (whose other side is much more spectacular).

The climb from Thoiry is not very steep but it is irregular, with occasional flats and even slight descents and one that is steeper. As a result, the percentage is sometimes higher, but only for short distances. The road is very quiet and of fairly good quality. The views are often very pleasant, both over the countryside and the peaks of the Bauges, including Mont Margériaz, the Croix du Nivolet and the Pointe de la Galoppaz. At the pass, the view stretches from the Lauzière range to the northern Belledonne. This climb can be added to one of the many others in the area to complete an outing.
