A long climb (for the standard of the area) with some pretty tough sections.
There can be a lot of cars in the summer but in the low season it's quite quiet.
There is a small fountain on the right hand side of the road after the junction to the Kreuzweg pass, for refreshment or refilling water bottles.
Note that this pass continues to the local high point (Champ du Feu) which will offer a nice view of the Vosges to the west and the plain to the east, at the cost of another two kilometres at 7%.

In itself, this is a nice climb. However, the experience is completely spoiled by the amount of motorized traffic. In the 12 kilometres of this climb I was overtaken by hundreds of souped-up Volkswagens and just as many groups of motorbikes. It really made me nervous at one point. The amount of noise of crackling engines is terrible. Best to leave this one aside, or just do it on a Monday morning.
The climb itself is constant and I found it quite tough. The road surface is good and wide. With 5 km to go, on the right side of the road is a small spring with ice cold water for your water bottle. Do it!

Doen!

Sorry but what were you expecting, it's a col in the end, motorized vehicles are often attracted, see Ventoux. Also you possibly climbed it in the wrong day, the vehicles you encountered were probably here because of an organization
